Nebraska baseball faces nation's best pitching staff!

No. 22 ranked Cal-State Fullerton has the best pitching stats in college baseball.  No. 19 ranked Nebraska isn't a team that hits the cover off the ball. So the score tomorrow might be 2-1,-3-2, or something like that.

Cal State had a 32-22 record and finished fourth in the Big West. Their RPI ranking is 54th compared to NU's of 26th. Cal State had a batting average of .260 this year with 4.7 runs per game. Their ERA for their pitchers was 2.03. That compares to a 3.55 for NU. Get the message! Their opponent's batting average is .228. Wow!

The best hitters for Cal-State are J.D. Davis and Matt Chapman. Their starting pitchers are Thomas Eshelman. Justin Garza, and Grahamm Wiest.

3rd baseman Jeff Placzek may not play today. If that happens, it will probably be Headley to 3rd and Austin Christensen at first.

Nebraska and Cal-State play at 12:05 today on ESPNU.

McCook won the Class B State Golf Tournament yesterday in a one hole playoff over Beatrice. It was the 10th title by McCook. Sam Morse was the Class B medalist. He is from Columbus Lakeview. Gretna, coached by Scott Boehler, ended up 9th out of 12 teams.

There are still tickets available for the Terrance Crawford and Yuriorkis Gamboa fight on June 18th. Crawford is the world championship from Omaha, Nebraska. He wears NU hats before many of his fights. HBO will be televising this event and Crawford will entertain. He is a great boxer and he is from Nebraska!!

Also on that card is Mikael Zewski 23-0 and Prince Doku Jr. 18-5. This is the NABF welterweight championship fight.

Middleweight prospect Matt Korobov 23-0 also fights Jose Uzcategui 22-0 in a middleweight bout. Both are hoping to win and get to the next level. Many say Korobov will be the world champion in the near future.

The Nebraska baseball recruiting class is rated No. 19 in the nation and tops in the Big 10. They have commits from 13 prospects. Recruits from Nebraska include Byron Hood, a right handed pitcher from Norris, Jake Meyers, a left handed pitcher and outfielder from Omaha Westside, and Jakson Reetz, a catcher, outfielder, and right handed pitcher from Hickman.

Oregon State, Florida, Virginia, and Indiana are the top four seats in the NCAA baseball tournament.

Husker women eliminated!

In a tight game, Nebraska lost 2-1 to Alabama. Alabama goes to the College World Series. They won in 2012. Nebraska gave up two runs in the first inning and could never recover. Nebraska lost 6-5 on 12 innings yesterday.

Tatum Edwards, who pitched her last game as a Husker, gave up seven hits and no earned runs.

The Nebraska men play tomorrow morning at 9 am and play the winner of the Iowa Michigan game which is being played now. Michigan leads 7-1 in the eighth so that's probably our opponent. Nebraska had the day off so they should have an advantage there. Michigan is 29-28. They beat Nebraska two out of three in late April. Nebraska is playing better ball right now.

The Nebraska Tack Meet continues tomorrow and there will be lots of action. Watch the updates on nsaahome.org.

Ok so the Redskins need to change their name. Americans has been suggested as the new name. Lets change it and get it done.
