Maher going to mini-camp!
Brett Maher is heading to a minicamp with the New York Jets. He was one of the best kickers in college football this past season!

Kyler Reed
Kyler Reed has signed a free agent contract with Jacksonville. Looks to me like some Husker free agents will have better chances to make the NFL than many of those drafted.
Huskers to the NFL!
Rex Burkhead is headed to the Cinncinnati Bengals after getting drafted in the 6th round. Damian Stafford was one of the last drafted in the 7th round. He is going to the Titans.
Shortly after the draft, Will Compton looks like he has a free agent deal with the Washington Redskins. Ben Cotton is signing with the San Diego Chargers.
Eric Martin says he will probably be signing with the New Orleans Saints.
Baker Steinkuhler is yet to sign but I am sure he will and I think he will make a team. He may have been the earliest draft pick from Nebraska if it wasn't for his knee injury last fall.
Brett Maher is close to signing. He should have a great chance to make it with a team also.
Nothing from Kyler Reed which is amazing to me. Hopefully he will get a great contract. Too much talent not to have a great chance in the NFL.
Cameron Meredith, PJ Mangieri, and Alonzo Whaley have no takers yet.

Brion Carnes is leaving Nebraska!
Brion Carnes is transferring from Nebraska. In the 2011 Spring Game Carnes impressed the fans with a great performance at quarterback. Many wanted him to start. He ends his career two for two in passing and very little playing time. Last year he played receiver and got into one game.
His destination may be South Florida.
He joins Chase Rome and Braylon Heard as key players that have left the program.
The NU baseball team swept Purdue this weekend!! They continue to improve!!

What will win the Masters today?
Scores are high today. It looks to me like four or five under will win the tournament. Watch for that score and who can come to the top.
Did President Obama call Andy Huffman this week? Work is he did but I haven't seen anything in the news.

Heard to Kentucky
Braylon Heard, the former running back for Nebraska, has confirmed he is heading to Kentucky. Heard will be playing for coach Mark Stoops at Kentucky.
Tim Miles has suspended Deverell Biggs for an uncertain number of games for his DUI conviction.
NU assistant basketball coach Ben Johnson is being considered for the Minnesota assistant coaching job. Their head coach is now Rick Petino's son.
NU has pictures out today of the new basketball floor. Looks real nice!!
The court is awesome. The state outline is at center court.
NU is still in the hunt for big man Sal Tummala. He is visiting NU this weekend.
The Masters is underway. Its my favorite golf tournament to watch all year long. Here are some observations.
Ian Poulter, who many thought would do well shot a 76. Right behind him was last year's winner Bubba Watson with a 75.
The fovorite right now may be Dustin Johnson who shot a 67. I wished I had him on my fantasy team.
Rickie Fowler shoots a 68 with two double bogeys. Amazing.
Sergio Garcia, who played good golf all last year, is tied for the lead with a 66. Marc Leishman, an Australian, is tied with Garcia.
How about 14-year-old Tianlang Guan!! He shot a 73 today. It will be fun to see if he makes the cut and plays this weekend. I hope so.
NU has another walk-on coming in for football. He is Johnny Stanton's high school buddy. He is a wide receiver and defensive back.

One of the Greatest Memories Ever!
The event olf Jack Hoffman's run in the Red-White Game yesterday was one of the greatest sports moments of this writer. Here was the center of Team Jack on the field. This brave young man, who is fighting a brain tumor, made my day. He made me cry. Very emotional.
First it had to happen and Jeff Jamrog and Coach Bo Pelini allowed it to happen. Pretty cool. Very thoughtful.
Then you have Jack coming onto the field. How cool is that! Then the run with a step or two to the left side of the line and then he is directed to the right side of the line and he takes off. This kid is fast!! He ran and ran and the closer he got to the endzone it appeared he was going even faster. He scored the touchdown in the same form as Rex Burkhead. No. 22 scored!!
The call by Greg Sharpe and Matt Davison was one to remember.
Then the benches emptied. The players love Jack Hoffman!! It was real love.A couple of players put him on their shoulders. The crowd erupted!! They were cheering so loud.
Jack led all rushers with 69 yards in only one quarter. He's in the box score. I hope in 10-12 years he enters the field again to play in a real game against a real opponent.
Heck, he deserves a scholarship offer right now!
Ron Kellogg and Tommy Armstrong played very well. How about Alonzo Moore? Wow, I hope he gets the plays and fundamentals down so he can play a lot this fall.
The game was a blast to watch even on BTN with the radio going at times. Linemen catching punts. The "find a Way to Win" drill. These extras added a lot to the experience.
Pelini was relaxed and was having fun!! This was great to see. But this fall he will have his game face on again.
The recruits had to love their time in Lincoln.
In Nebraska baseball this afternoon, they lost 6-5. They won two out of three with Iowa this weekend.
The Masters is next weekend. It is golf's finest tournament.
Billy Butler had seven RBI's today as the Royals rallied to beat the Phillies 9-8. Alex Gordon was three for four and has raised his average to .400.

Sport Shorts!
Oh wow, what a boxing match last weekend on HBO. Mike Alvarado 34-1 beat Brandon Rios 31-1-1 in a very close decision. So much great excitement and now their only loses have been to each other. Watch for bout number three between them soon.
How about Terrance Crawford from Omaha. He beat Breidis Prescott, the favorite pretty easily. Crawford is now 20-0 and he is closest thing to Muhammed Ali since Muhammed Ali. He fights light welterweight but watch him and he will remind you of the "Greatest of all time!".
Nebraska baseball is 11-16 and 5-1 in the conference. They are headed to Iowa this week. Huge weekend for NU. Nebraska has to win the Big 10 now to make it into post season play. Christian DeLeon 2-2 goes Friday, Ryan Hander 0-2 Saturday, and Tyler Niederklein pitches Sunday. It won't be easy so if NU is to make something of this season they have to start out by beating Iowa and 5-1 Matt Dermody Friday night.
Tubby Smith was fired by Minnesota! Why? Now he is headed to Texas Tech. Rick Petino's son is the new coach at Minnesota.
Louisville beats Wichita St 72-60 on Saturday and in a toss up game and maybe another overtime, Michigan knocks off Syracuse 71-70. Its Louisville and Michigan playing for the national championship.
Hannibal starts tonight on NBC. May be a hit!
Alliance's Brodick Nickens has switched from offense to the defensive line. He is playing well and he is known as a bad dude. He is a leader by example.
This Saturday is the Red-White game. We will get to see some new players try to prove themselves while the veterans watch. There's some many players to watch it is hard to name them all but all eyes will be on Tommy Armstrong.
Nathan Gerry is my favorite recruit coming in this fall. Well, he just broke the 100-meter record in South Dakota with a 10.28. He did that running in tights because of the cold weather. Gerry will be at the Red-White game on Saturday.
Jamie Guthrie pitched real well today as the Royals won their first game of the season. Alex Gordon was 2-4 and raised his average to .273.
And the Cubbies won today over Pittsburgh 3-2.
Cubs and Royals in the World Series!! haha
