Nebraska continues to move up in the Pomeroy rankings to 159th. Four straight losses and they are climbing over teams. Why? Because Nebraska is playing the seventh toughest schedule in the nation.
Nebraska is shooting 27% from the three point line but they are shooting a respectable 49% on 2 pointers. This really is their strength, shooting jumpers. The percentage is remarkable considering they don't get many inside shots.
Nebraska is playing well. Purdue is rated 85th. The game is at home. Nebraska has to continue to hit shots.
My prediction:

I hope we can pull this one out. The team is playing hard and its time for a win.

Nebraska is moving up
Nebraska has moved up to 162nd in the Pomeroy ratings. They now look look like they have a good chance to win their next four games. At least they should all be close. Look to Nebraska to beat Northwestern and Penn State and play Purdue and Illinois very close.
Penn State is now rated 205th so Nebraska has moved ahead of them with ease.

Fisher will not return!
NU announced that LB Sean Fisher will not return to the Huskers for a possible 6th season in 2013.
The Illinois basketball team fell 11 spots in the polls after going 0-2 last week.

Men's basketball this afternoon!
Even though Nebraska has lost the last three games they have showed that they can win this year in the Big 10. They have moved up to 168th in the Pomeroy ratings. They were as low as 216th earlier this year. The trouble today is four fold.
First they have lost Mike Peltz for the year due to surgery to his knee. He provides depth which Nebraska has very little of this year.
Second, the heart of the team is Brandon Ubel. He has a fractured arm and will be out for a "while". Ubel is a leader. He is one of their top scorers. He leads in rebounding. He is critical to Nebraska. Who will need to step up?? Almeida will get more time, if that is possible, as he wears down because of his size. We will probably see a lineup of no center with three or four guards playing. Maybe Sergei Vucetic will play some.
Third is they play Michigan St. today. They are tough. They are one of the top teams in the nation and rated 16th by Pomeroy. Micigan St. is 13-3 and 2-1 in the conference.
The fourth reason is that the game is in Lansing, Michigan. A really hard place to play.

On the national scene the SEC has lots of players leaving early. LSU has nine players leaving for the draft in addition to their normal seniors leaving. The SEC will be hurt by this. Sport Shorts!
2013 NU basketball recruit Wisconsin wing Nick Fuller has turned into a recruiter. When 2013 power forward recruit Matthew Atewe of Notre Dame (Mass) Prep made his official visit last weekend, Fuller was there to make a hard sell. Fuller thinks Atewe is close to becoming the fourth 2013 recruit.
The other two recruits are Texas guard Nathan Hawkins and New Zealand guard Tai Webster.
Fuller's senior year at Sun Prairie (Wis) High School has gone well. His team is 10-1. He is currently averaging 26 points and 10 rebounds. Earlier this year he broke the career scoring record at his high school.

He has visited Kansas State and Auburn.Last weekend he made an official visit to Nebraska. He plans to take all five of his official visits before he decides his choice in Murch.

Nebraska is expected to get a visit soon from Toronto native Kevin Thomas, a 6-9 forward at Palm Beach College in Florida. He's a former Texas commit who came from the same AAU program that produced Longhorn players Cory Joseph, Tritan Thompson and Myck Kabongo.
Thomas recently received an offer from Clemson, while Minnesota is also showing interest.
Nebraska also continues to evaluate Leslee Smith, a 6-7, 255-pound forward from Seward County (Kan) Community College. Smith, a Texa native, transferred to Seward after playing last season at SMU.
The spring signing period begins April 17.
Nebraska recently offered Kevin Maurice, a defensive tackle from Florida, a scholarship. He quickly committed to Nebraska. Defensive tackle is a top priority for the Huskers.

Notre Dame way out of their league!
As expected Notre Dame is getting killed by Alabama. Except for those Notre dame Haters and Alabama Lovers the rest of the nation is watching something else right now.
Texas A & M is probably the best team in the nation but because of a slow start they probably didn't deserve to be in the Championship game with Alabama. But what a game that would have been. I think A & M would have beat them again.
Oregon should have been in the Championship game. They are far and away better than Notre Dame.
Right now Alabama is dominating ND in every facet of the game. It isn't even close. What a disappointment to a great college season.

Nebraska vs. Wisconsin Sunday at 3:30!
Nebraska has its first Big 10 game at home tomorrow at 3:30. Come out and watch a great game. Nebraska is the weakest team in the Big 10 this year but the Big 10 is the top basketball conference in America. Lots of talent. Every home game this year will give fans a chance to see some of the best in college basketball. Seven or eight teams will make it to the NCAA tournament this year.
Wisconsin sports a well coached team. They are 10-4 and 1-0 in the conference. They are rated 17th by Pomeroy. Nebraska is coming in at 193rd. Wisconsin is a very good defensive team and they don't turn the ball over. They are led by Jared Berggen. He is one of the best players in America. He is the main guy we have to stop. He penetrates and gets lots of foul shots and by the way he is hitting 80% of those. He is averaging 13.4 points a game. He is the typical efficient Wisconsin player.
Ryan Evans is another tough player. He leads the Badgers in rebounds and shoots a lot of shots although his average is mediocre. Ben Brust is second in rebounds, second in PPG at 11.9, and leads the team in assists. We stop these players and we win the game.
The Huskers, who will be wearing red uniforms for this game, are lead by Brandon Ubel. Ray Gallegos, and Dylan Talley. With Eric Almeida and Mike Peltz probably out for this game, the Huskers have six players they can depend on. Well maybe seven now. Freshman Sergej Vucetic scored the first four points of his Husker career in the second half versus Ohio State.
Look to a lower scoring game. Nebraska will need to shoot lights out which means Gallegos will need to be hot. They will have to play the perfect game to win. Low turnovers and great defense. Doing the things Wisconsin do most every game.
But we have a chance. Creighton beat Wisconsin by the same margin the beat the Huskers so.......

Nebraska will play tough today!
Bo Pelini likes a challenge. It doesn't matter who we play. Coach Pelini, I don't think, would care if we played the No. 1 team every week. He likes to complete. He doesn;t like to lose. That's just the way it is. He is a competitior. We wouldn't want anything less.
Nebraska is not following their team to Orlando this year in great bunches. I would guess it is because they don't want to travel to a game that they feel we will get slattered. It is too soon after the Big 10 Championship to get excited that we could pull off an upset.
But I think there will be some fans that wished they would have went to the game. I think it will be a close competitive game. Our offense will score some points. So will their's. Turnovers and penalties will be key. Will Georgia approach the game like we have the past two bowl games?
Nebraska has some NFL type players. More than Nebraska has. One of ours is not playing, Baker Steinkuhler. But the best players don't always win, Ask Texas. Maybe the best talent in the nation but they lose a lot of games.
Burkhead is back. He has averaged 7.2 yards a carry. Abdullah is our season's leading rusher with 1,089. Brandon Heard has a 6.7 yard average. Probably should play more. Taylor Martinez is always a threat with 973 yards tushing this year. The offensive line has played pretty well this season. They have a huge challenge today as Georgia's defensive line is very good. We will see at times maybe two down linemen but they will be sending more.
Martinez has completed 62.2% of his passes. Nice improvement. This is less than his goal of 70% but that was a nice goal but 62% is ok.
Kenny Bell is our top receiver with 46 catches for 803 yards. Enunwa has 40 catches and Jamal Turner is turning it on late in the season with 29 catches and 395 yards. Kenny Bell has 8 TD's which is by far the most.
On defense, Will Compton leads the Huskers with 101 tackles and Daimon Stafford has 89. PJ Smith (79), Alonzo Whaley (63), and Eric Martin (56) follow in tackles. Martin is the King in tackles for losses with 16.
Aaron Murray will be the best passer we have seen this year. He will play in the NFL. Nebraska has played against a bunch of NFL quarterbacks such as Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, Josh Freeman, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, and RG3. Aaron Murray will join them in the NFL in a year or two.
He has hit 65% of his passes for 3,564 yards. This compares to Martinez's 2,700 yards. Todd Gurley leads their rushing attack with 1,260 yards and a 6.3 average. Keith Marshall has 723 yards with a 6.6 yard average. As good as or maybe better than the Huskers.
Malcolm Mitchell has 40 catches for 572 yards ande Tavames King has 39 catches for 846 yards and a 21.7 yard average. Kenny Bell has a 17.6 yard average.
The Georgia defense is let by Alec Ogletree with 98 tackles. Shawn Williams has 87 tackles. Watch out for Jarvis Jones who has 77 tackles but has 22.5 tackles for losses. That's 6.5 more tackles for losses than Eric Martin.
Georgia is good. This isn't the most exciting game for them as they come off a loss to Alabama by three points which would have allowed them to play for the National Championship.

UNO women start Summit League play
I love the underdog and have become interested in the UNO women's basketball team. They are 8-2 and expected to finish last in the Summit League this year but they are playing good ball. UMKC 4-9 was expected to finish second in the league. They play tonight in KC and I will be interested in how they compete.
The NU basketball team may have a new starting lineup. They are looking at moving Talley to point guard and getting Shevon Shield in the game in place of Parker to give them a bigger lineup and offensive weapons. Some teams have played off of Peltz and a little bit on Benny Parker.
Georgia is still favored by ten points. I look to a game that will be closer than that.
Matt Brodine has signed with the practive squad with the St. Louis Rams.
Frank Solich's Ohio team plays today at 1:00 vs. Louisiana/Monroe. Ohio is seven point underdogs. They had a rash of injuries at the end of the year and lost some games.
Georgia runs a 3-4 defense and many times there will only be two down lineman so essentially it goes to a 2-5 defense. I bet they test our offensive line with some blitzs. We will see how the tight ends and the rest of the line handle this.
Aaron Murray will be by far the best throwing quarterback we have faced this year. He doesn't run, which is good for NU, but he will play in the NFL with his throwing ability.

Aaron Murray will be by far the best throwing quarterback we have faced this year. He doesn't run, which is good for NU, but he will play in the NFL with his throwing ability.
Lets hope defensive juco tackle Ben Bradley agrees to go with NU today. We need lots of depth at that position. We need some high school players to develop also.

Osborne always remained calm.
Rob Zatechka, former member of the NU pipeline had this quote in the Kearney Hub tonight.
“Someone asked Osborne why he never cut loose emotionally. I remember Osborne making the point that if the players see you losing emotional control, whether good or bad, they’re going to lose emotional control, and that’s where you see games spiral out of control.”
Sad news today as Josh Jones announced he will not suit up for Creighton anymore because of his heart ailment. Josh Jones will find a way to make a contribution to society. Maybe coaching or a mentor to the young......he will find a way.

Merry Christmas to all!
I would like to take this time to wish you all a Merry Christmas!! We are very Blessed. Pray for those that are having struggles through the loss of a loved one, or a loved one is sick, or pray for those that are lonely.
Every year, well-meaning but misguided people the world over spend $8.6 trillion on unwanted Christmas gifts. The amount of money wasted on Christmas gifts could greatly reduce all global debt and rebuild the devastated infrastructure of every Third World country.
Never thought of this one!! I had a discussion with an individual that thinks that if we switched our allegiance and contract with Adidas and went with NIKE, Michael Jordon, or Under Armour, we would do more for recruiting than all the facilities we have buildt. Their theory is that the uniforms and sportswear that is used at a college attracts the attention of athletes looking for a college more than the facilities we use. We should probably look into this. I would be curious to know what the athletes really think.
The Nebraska basketball team is rated #204 by the Pomeroy ratings. They are rated the lowest of all other Big 10 teams. Look to Nebraska to win at home against Penn St. and then pull off one or two upsets to end up with around three games in conference play.
Go see the men or women basketball teams this season. If nothing else, on the men's side, is you will see some great teams and athletes in the Big 10. Many will go on to the NBA.

Nebraska to win in a close one tonight!
Nebraska needs a win!! They should get it tonight against Jacksonville St. Nebraska is rated 204th and Jacksonville St. is 234th in the Pomeroy ratings. Jacksonville has a tough defense. I look to Shavon Shields to break out tonight with a nice game.
Nebraska wins 52-48 in a very low scoring affair But they should get the win!!
Gary Anderson of Utah St. may be the top candidate for the Wisconsin job. Will Bill Busch go with him. He is presently the defensive coordinator at Utah St. and he is a former asst. coach at Nebraska.

Nebraska/Creighton prediction!
The Huskers will see tonight where they stand in college football going against Top 20 team Creighton. Creighton is very talented. Nebraska has the home court and is rated 179th by Pomeroy. Creighton is 19th although other polls has Creighton as high as 13th in the nation.
Nebraska meets its match tonight. My head says Creighton 74 Nebraska 66. My heart says "Go Huskers!!!"

Nebraska basketball is doing well!
The Nebraska men's basketball team played a nice game versus USC. USC took several runs at the Huskers but this year they seem to stay with it and keep the lead. They have seldom had long scoring droughts like they have had in the past.
Brandon Ubel lead the team with seven rebounds and four assists adding nine points. Ray Gallegos is the real thing. He had his second 20 point game and has added a shooting touch that Nebraska hasn't had for a while. He scores 32% of the points in this game.
Dylan Talley had a nice game but far from his best. He has been the most consistent player on defense.
Andre Almeida is a blast to watch. Sometimes he looks a little clumsy but he has some real nice plays on offense and defense. Benny Parker continues to contribute and Mike Peltz is improving each game with more playing time. Shavon Shields looks very athlectic and when he gets completely health and gets a little more game time and think he will start to be a big factors in the upcoming games.
This was Nebraska's sixth game at home this year and they have averaged a five point margin in those games. Nebraska actually beat the spread by 14 points.
When the season started Nebraska was rated 216th in the Pomeroy ratings. They have now moved up to 177th. They are headed in the right direction.
The Big 10 is freshishly good this year. The next team up the later is Penn State at 131 and then you go up quite a ways before you find the next team.
Nebraska plays Creighton Thursday night and I would expect a full house for this one. Creighton should win by 10 or so but we will see how good Nebraska really is that night.

Georgia and USC
Nebraska didn't do so well Saturday night. Many turned off the tv so they didn't have to watch Wisconsin run all over us. Let's give credit to Wisconsin who named former Nebraskan Bart Miller, their offensive line coach, early after the season started. Chase Rome said that the Wisconsin offensive line was the best NU had faced this season and they were very well coached.
Our weaknesses were not a surprise. We are 95th in the nation in rushing defense. Then we lose Baker Steinkuhler who I think is as good or better than Jared Crick. This kid is good and we definately missed him Saturday night. We are 105th in the nation in turnover margin. That negative trend continued on Saturday night.
I wonder how many yards Taylor Martinez would have had if he played against the NU defense Saturday night. Martinez is only 360 yards short of 4000 total offensive yards in 2012.
Let's look at the positives. Nebraska won six games in a row to earn a chance to the Big Ten Championship. They made us proud. Nebraska is one of four teams in the nation to win nine games each of the last five seasons joins Alabama, Oregon, and Boise St.
Georgia will be a tough contest. They are ranked 5th in the nation and was worthy of playing in a BCS bowl. Georgia won the SEC East and should of won the championship last Saturday against Alabama who is playing in the National Championship game.
The game will be at noon on January 1st in Orlando, Florida. ABC will televise the game.

Burkhead and the Huskers win today!
With Rex Burkhead back and Steinkuhler and Jackson out, it should be an interesting game. Nebraska will be the stronger team and will win out 27-23 over Wisconsin!

Huskers Top Wake Forest, 79-63
One of the most surprising and finest wins I can remember for a while. Huge win against an ACC in their house. It was a really fun game to watch. Join in on the fun and we will see you Monday night in Lincoln against USC.
Nebraska is moving up but still doesn't have a lot of respect as they are rated No. 200 in the Pomeroy Poll.

Nebraska football!
On a blustery cold day and Nebraska down 7-3 at half at Iowa, Nebraska had lost two of their best players in center Justin Jackson and defensive lineman Baker Steinkuhler. Our defense was getting killed on 1st and 2nd down. Without some sensational plays by Eric Martin, we could have been down another touchdown. Iowa had recovered two of Nebraska's fumbles and Nebraska, except for their first time consuming drive of the game was lifeless.
But in the second half Nebraska got some help from Superman. Rex Burkhead entered the game. Rex Burkhead was a huge factor in Nebraska's win. Ameer Abdullah had replaced Burkhead very well but I had forgot how good Burkhead was. He is an NFL type player. He is fast, strong, and powerful.
Alonzo Whaley had his best half of the year and had a key interception. Looked like one of those plays that Pelini knew where it was going and Whaley was ready. Whaley led the Huskers with 11 tackles. And how about Chase Rhome. He had his best game ever. He stepped up to replace Steinkuhler and was key to the victory. Crazyman Eric Martin is increasing his value to possibly get drafted. He is playing real well.
And let's not forget about mark Pelini who took over for Justin Jackson. No missed snaps and some nice blocks.
Who thought Ben Cotton would be the leading receiver and Kenny Bell and Jamal Turner wouldn't catch passes. And we still won. Abdullah and Martinex neither one would have more than 50 yards rushing. Superman.
Burkhead had 70 yards on 16 carries in the second half. He scored the winning touchdown. He was inspiring. He was Superman.

Bold prediction! Look to Creighton to get beat in a GREAT game tonight. I will put the score at Wisconsin 70 Creighton 65!! Wisconsin's defense will be the deciding factor in this one.

Illinois will now be annual game!
Sounds like Nebraska will have Illinois join the West division with Maryland and Rutgers going to the East Division. Will this addition help Nebraska recruiting. We will see. There are a lot of Nebraskans in the New Jersey and Washington DC area. Should be great for them!
The Nebraska basketball team will have their biggest challenge on Wednesday night. Tulane can play basketball. They are expected to win 20+ games this year.
I see another very close game with Nebraska 56 Tulane 55.
Tonight the Nebraska women play in Lincoln against 1-2 Sam Houston State. They won't be easy but the Husker women should get one in the win column.
