The men's NU basketball team will not be playing in postseason play. As a fan I am disappointed but I am sure the team and Athletic Department made the right decision.

In non-sports news I read today the the IKEA founder, who is worth $40 billion , buys his clothes at flea markets. I told my wife this and she said "good for him". Omaha World-Herald's om Shatel had a great article on how the interest in basketball in the State of Nebraska is picking up!!  Creighton, Nebraska, and UNO showed promise for the future this year. The High School State Basketball tournament was full of excitement. With excitement brings more Division I players. We have seen it in volleyball.  http://www.omaha.com/sports/shatel-as-passion-for-college-hoops-rises-state-s-teams/article_96096ec4-270c-5707-bae0-de436725ee6a.html

Prince Amukamara is headed to the Jacksonbille Jags after signing a one year contract.

WR Jason McQuitty from Missouri became the second player to commit to Nebraska for the 2017 class. He is a four star by Rivals ratings!! Wideout coach Keith Williams had a lot to do with McQuitty coming to Nebraska. The other member of the class is linebacker Willie Hampton from Florida.

I really think Keyshawn Johnson, Jr will come to Nebraska. He seems to really like the new coaches.

Michigan St. and Purdue are the two best teams in the Big 10. I like Purdue the most because of their size.

Jessica Shepard had the best freshman season ever for the NU women.

The Nebraska men play today at 1 pm on BTN vs. Northwestern. This is an away game. Northwestern is favored by five points.

Nancy Reagan passed away today at the age of 94.

Zac Darlington has switched from quarterback to wide receiver. With a lot of talent at wide receiver it will be interesting to see how  he does. It may take him a year to adapt but he is very athletic and will do well.

Tomorrow night the Nebraska men (rated 99) plays against No. 16 Purdue. This should be a good game but we don't match up very well with Purdue because they are so tall. Run and gun. I haven't been at an NU game where we have been beat yet so its:
Nebraska 71
Purdue 70

Kansas is the No. 1 team in the nation however Michigan St. (who Nebraska beat) and Villanova are close behind.

We seem to have Michigan St.'s number in sports and Wisconsin has ours.

Nebraska has offered a five star defensive lineman in Trevor Trout. John Parella is his main recruiter and he likes Missouri right now. He is part of the 2018 class.

The two greatest things going on in Nebraska the last few month is the Nebraska Volleyball team winning the NCAA tournament and Terrance "Bud" Crawford being the WBO junior welterweight champion. Both these champions look good into the future too.

The Nebraska volleyball team will have a bunch of players back in 2017. Then when you add a first team All-American transfer from LSU named Briana Holman the future looks very bright.

Bud Crawford is great and a huge promoter of Omaha and Nebraska and the Cornhuskers and the Creighton Bluejays on a national basis. Saturday Nebraska and all those above were mentioned in a very positive light by the HBO announcers and Crawford himself. Crawford fought at Madison Square Garden in New York for another defense of his title. He had a TKO in the 5th round against "Hammerin" Hank Lundy. Crawford goes to 28-0.  If you haven't watched him do so. So fun!!  Let's hope in fight in Omaha soon again.

Make sure you read the Shatel article on this blog. It's the read of the day!!

Is John Parella a good hire with coaching and recruiting ability?  I don't know for sure but it sure excites me. I think he could be a great fit for Nebraska. He has always had a passion to work hard himself and that should rub off on his players. Too bad Valentine won't be at Nebraska this fall.

With Nebraska football spring practice coming soon, it will be interesting to see who are the front runners for the offensive line other than Gates and Utter. They have a bunch of pretty good young guys coming up.

I know that spring ball doesn't mean a lot sometimes. I think the big news last spring was Wilbon at running back and AJ Bush at quarterback. Then the spring game came and all the talk was about Zac Darlington. None of them played much last season.

Who will be the back-up quarterback this year? What if Armstrong gets hurt? Will Patrick O'Brien be ready?

I saw Andrew White hit 35 vs Penn St a week ago. He had a pretty good chance of breaking the record of 42 but two offensive fouls cost him 6 points. The fouls were on other players at the same time he swishes a couple of 3's.

The Nebraska women have injuries and this is just killing their season.

NFL Predictions!

KANSAS CITY AT NEW ENGLAND

New England is the favorite!  Kansas City has won 11 consecutive games with a no-name offense.Besides Jeremy Maclin Kansas City has no stars. This is a tough one to call but I like the KC defense to be the difference.
KANSAS CITY 24 NEW ENGLAND 23

GREEN BAY AT ARIZONA
Arizona has a very good team and the Packers have struggled as of late until last week. The Cardinals beat Green Bay 38-8 in December. The Packers just don't have an offensive line. Closer this time but....
ARIZONA 30 GREEN BAY 17

SEATTLE AT CAROLINA
Wow this should be a great game. Two winners. Marshawn Lynch is back for Seattle and should give them a great chance to win. Russell Wilson is one of the top four quarterbacks in the NFL. Carolina has lost just one game this year and are on a roll.
CAROLINA 31 SEATTLE 28

PITTSBURGH AT DENVER
I would take Pittsburgh any day in this one if they were healthy. They are injured at running back, quarterback, and receiver. And their receiver is the best in the NFL in Antonio Brown. With the injuries I have to go with the Broncos but it should be a great game until the Denver defense scores a couple of TD's.
DENVER 27 PITTSBURGH 20

One in 292 million of winning the Powerball when buying one ticket.

Chances of the Nebraska men's basketball team beating Illinois at Illinois on Saturday is 33%.
Prediction is however Nebraska 78 Illinois 76  We are playing good  No reason to stop.

Basketball Prediction

Nebraska will end their long streak of losing in the Big 10 today by beating Rutgers 70-66.

NFL playoffs start today!! Arizona and New England are the favorites to go to the Super Bowl in San Fransisco. I like Carolina over Arizona or Seattle. I think both are better.

New England or Cincinnati could be in the Super Bowl although an underdog I like is Pittsburgh. Antonio Brown is amazing.

The Packers are really struggling right now and I don't see Houston being a factor.

KANSAS CITY AT HOUSTON
The winner of this game plays Denver next week. Kansas City is hot and has won 10 straight. I don't see that streak ending this week. Houston has a pretty good defense so there will not be a lot of scoring. 20-23 points should win this one and I think that will be Kansas City. The last time Kansas City won a playoff game they had Marcus Allen in the backfield and Joe Montana at quarterback. That was 22 years ago.  Houston's only chance is getting four turnovers or more. KC 23-20

PITTSBURGH AT CINCINNATI
The winner of this game will play New England next week. I call this almost an even game because Pittsburgh can play some good ball. They have a great passing attack but they are injury riddled at running back. Big Ben, Antonio Brown, and Bryant are very good and Pitt can put up a lot of points. Cincinnati has AJ McCarron at QB. He is playing while Dalton has been hurt and he has played well. Pittsburgh defense win as Cinncy will have a hard time running. Pittburgh 31 Cincinnati 28

SEATTLE at MINNESOTA
The winner of this game plays at Arizona next week. Minnesota plays at home in this one but Seattle is going for its third straight Super Bowl trip. I just see Seattle controlling this game. Seattle 34 Minnesota 17

GREEN BAY AT WASHINGTON
The winner plays Carolina next week. This is probably a game that has the two teams that don't have a chance for the Super Bowl. But this should be a pretty darn good game. The game is in Washington and the Redskins have been been scoring big in the last three games.  I look to this game having a lot of offense. Washington 38 Green Bay  34
