The final recruit is Matthew Atewe, who made his official visit in January. the 6-9, 230 pound Atewe is deciding between Nebraska, Auburn, Charlotte, and Nevada. He is to make his decision on Saturday.

Husker baseball team goes to 2-1 in conference.

NU traveled to Illinois this week. All three games were close. NU won two of them. Illinois had won 12 of their last 13 games. Pat Kelly was the hero this weekend with timely hits. Good job Huskers!

NU goes to 8-14 and 2-1 in the conference. Their tough early schedule will pay off. Nebraska was averaging just over three runs a game so far this year but scored 22 runs at Illinois in three games.

The NU women play Texas A & M tomorrow on the Aggies home floor. It will be a tough game to win. But if Jordon Hooper stays hot, who knows!!!!

The Creighton women won also upsetting Syracuse.

What a NASCAR race today. Wrecks at the finish line and a Tony Stewart-Joey Logano fight. This should get some excitement back into racing. It has been really boring lately.

Holdrege Duster's Rachel Jelden made the Class B All-State first team. Maggie Nelson was Honorable Mention. On the boy's side, Andrew Maaske and Luke Ackerman were Honorable Mention.

Southern Valley's Spencer Kucera made the Boys C-2 All State Team.

There are four Big 10 teams in the Sweet Sixteen. They are Michigan, Michigan St., Indiana, and Ohio St.

Tonight Creighton loses to Duke 66-50.

Lots of Sports!

Omaha World-Herald's Lee Barfknecht compares Tim Miles to Bill Snyder. Pretty good comparison. He says "Like Snyder, Miles has created an internal standard of excellence in how you practice and how you play that won't be compromised.
Like Snyder, Miles has refused to put limits on what his program can achieve in a single year, regardless of the roster composition.
Like Snyder, Miles has identified in recruiting which players fit his style. Miles' simple mantra is "he better be able to pass it, catch it, and shoot it."

Miles says that Terran Petteway, Walter Pickford, and Deverell Biggs look good at times but he is unsure how they will perform in a game situation.

The Kansas City Royals should be fun to wach this year. Guess who is hitting .486 in spring ball. Alex Gordon, who has gifted $1 million to Husker Athletics. Very Generous!!!!!

The Husker baseball team beat the 14-5 UC Irvine baseball team on Saturday.Sophomore Josh Roeder saved the win with the bases loaded in the ninth. He came in and got a popup, strikeout, and then a flyout for the Husker win. The Huskers are 6-10 going into today's game.

The NCAA men's and women's basketball selections are coming soon. The men's this afternoon at five and the women's tomorrow. Always a great time of the year.

Is the Big 10 the best basketball conference in the national. Most say yes. I guess we will start to see starting this Thursday.

Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio St.are very good. Michigan and Michigan St. aren't that far behind. My sleeper is Illinois.

Congrats to Rachel Jelden for being named the Kearney Hub's Girl's Basketball Player of the Year. Also good luck to Holdrege's Paige Hasty, the leading score for North Platte Community College. They play No. 1 seed Mesa, Ariz.

Creighton to the Big East!

Creighton is going to the basketball dominated Big East Conference. So Creighton fans now can watch Georgetown, Villanova, DePaul, Marquette, St. Johns, Butler, Providence, Seton Hall, and Xavier. There will be more money for Creighton in the deal also. I wonder now what will happen to the Missouri valley Conference.

Danny Woodhead is head to San Diego. He will be a backup to Ryan Matthews. Woodhead was New England's second leading rusher this past year.

Greg Jennings is going to the Vikings. Wow, there I will need a program guide to see who plays for who. Tons of changes.

Kudos to the Men's Husker Basketball team for showing great improvement over the season. They improved their Pomeroy rankings from 218th to 137th before the Ohio St. game. They just kept getting better. Nebraska loses Dylan Talley, Brandon Ubel, and Andre Almeida next season. A lot of leadership there.

Sports shorts

Nebraska will play Purdue at 5:30 on Thursday. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Nebraska lost to Purdue 65-56 in Lincoln on January 16th. Brandon Ubel was hurt at that time.

Three years ago today, Nebraska had a substantial upset victory against Missouri, winning by 15 on the road. Nebraska was a 10.5 point underdog. Brandon richardson led the way with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 three-pointers.

Tom Osborne he will be involved with the university another three or four months and then he will fade into the sunset.

Southern Valley takes the C-1 Boy's Basketball Championship for 2013. Congrats to the school for its first basketball championship ever!!!

Nebraska vs Iowa in Men's BB!

Nebraska is after its sixth victory in the Big 10 this year vs Iowa today. A victory would likely put them in the NIT, even with a losing record. NU is probably very unlikely to end the regular season with a winning record.

Nebraska was down fifteen in Lincoln at the half and outscored the Hawkeyes 39-19 in the second half. How will it go in Iowa City? NU has a chance to win this one just not a big chance.

Prediction
Iowa 65 Nebraska 55

GO BIG RED!!!

Legendary Piatkowski Ready to Move On

Legendary Piatkowski Ready to Move On

Final game in the "BOB"!

Tonight is the finale in Bob Devaney. Next year basketball moves to the Pinnacle Arena by the Haymarket. Bob Devaney has provided lots and lots of memories since 1976. Joe Cipriano, Moe Iba, Danny Nee, Barry Collier, Doc Sadler, and Tim Miles all coached there.

Many great players have played in Devaney. There were upsets over top teams. Nebraska had some great players in those years. Memories forever.

How will the last game go against #14 ranked Minnesota. Nebraska has now moved up to 137th place, an 81 place gain from earlier in the year. Minnesota has a great team headed to the NCAA tournament. They have a 20-8 record and they are 8-8 in the league. This compares to Nebraska's 13-18 record and 4-14 in the league. This is the final game at the BOB so my prediction is:

Nebraska 67 Minnesota 66 in overtime
