NU Men's Basketball tonight!

See the Huskers on BTN at 6pm tonight. They play 22nd ranked Iowa at Iowa. A tough chore and this game will be like the Cincinnati game. NU will have to play at their best and hit a few 3's to win. Iowa has a 26 game winning streak on their court against unranked opponents.

Prediction
Iowa 75
Nebraska 65

Nebraska starts three sophomores and one freshman tonight.

What's really important!

Our Boehler Christmas is tomorrow. It's been a little over seven years ago since dad passed away. I still think about him everyday and miss him so much! I was going through some old papers and found the following. It brought tears to my eyes and I thought I would share it.

Janet, my wife, gave a devotional at her women's Church group shortly after dad passed away. She centered it on the "Purpose Driven Life's" Chapter 16. Her topic was "The Best Time to Love is Now". It says the best time to love is now because you don't know how long you will have the opportunity. The best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now.

Here's what Janet said,

"In September my father-in-law (Connie) was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Needless to say the family was not expecting to hear such devastating news. But since the day of diagnosis my husband and his siblings were with their father every day (literally). John would make trips daily to Kearney, Alma, and Lincoln. Family would stay at the hospital in Lincoln several days at a time. The expression of love to their father would be envious of anyone that could have witnessed it. Connie was sent home from Bryan LGH in Lincoln on Tuesday because there was nothing else that could be done in Lincoln. Connie was ready to go back to the Alma Hospital. He even stopped and bought chocolate malts for Bryce, June, his wife and himself in York. That night was the best Connie had since his bad news a few weeks ago. He laughed with old friends, told jokes to his kids and even told June to go home and have a good night's rest. Well, the next day Connie took a turn for the worse and by 5:00 that afternoon the family was joined around the bed. Connie was coming in and out of consciousness but I honestly believe he was waiting for his last son, Scott, to arrive before going home to be with the Lord. Scott arrived around 6:00 p.m. from Lincoln and as he hugged his dad, Connie briefly opened his eyes as if he knew everyone was there. The last hour of Connie's life was bittersweet. After the arrival of Scott, John leaned over to his dad and said it's time to go home; we are all here now. We all held hands and prayed the Lord's Prayer and as we finished the last word of the prayer, Connie took his last breath. I have never felt more compassion and love as I did that moment. Our prayers had been answered and Connie was at a place he had been on earth preparing for."

Janet continued, " I look back now at the sacrifices each one of Connie's children and June made to spend every single moment with him they could, not knowing how much longer they would have with him here on earth. They had absolutely no regrets. That kind of love is what God intended us to share everyday and not when it's convenient for us or when it works in our schedule."

Janet said that when she finished there wasn't anybody that didn't have tears in their eyes. Dad was always proud of our close family.

So during this Christmas season dad is very much on our minds! We do miss him dearly.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Taylor Martinez is officially ruled out of the Gator Bowl as announced by Bo Pelini today.

Randy Gregory annnounced he is staying for another year at Nebraska. Great news!!

The NU men's basketball team is ranked 89th by Pomeroy. They play Cincinnati tomorrow at Cincinnati. Cincy is very very good at home. Cincinnati is rated 37th.

Deverell Biggs is not traveling to Cincinnati. Coach Tim Miles left him home when he showed up late for a film session.

Prediction:

Cincinnati 67 Nebraska 58

Right now it looks like NU will be a 6-12 team in the Big 10. Now if they can win two more and go 8-8, who knows, maybe they can go to the NCAA tournament.

We are just a few days away from the Gator Bowl. Its a rematch from last year. The 8-4 Huskers will be healthier for the game compared to the last two or three weeks of the regular season. The Huskers will put up a good effort and will hold close in the game. It may come down to a last second field goal. I look to the underdog Huskers (9 point underdogs) to end the season in grand fashion. Tommy Armstrong was the quarterback for only one loss this year. I don't think he will have another.

Prediction:

Nebraska 27 Georgia 24

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced that Russell Westbrook will be out seven weeks after having knee surgery.

Tony Romo is done for the season.

Aaron Rodgers will start for the Green Bay Packers.

Taylor and Love will lead Nebraska in the future!

I always like to see who the scout players of the year are. They usually star for Nebraska the following year or within two years.  This year the offensive scout team player of the year is Adam Taylor, the freshman running back that redshirted this year. Jason Ankrah says he will be a special kid and that he has a lot of football ahead of him. Ciante Evans calls him "Physical".

The you have Courtney Love, the defensive scout team player of the year. They say that he looks like a grown man. Add Marcus Newby, who Jeremiah Sirles says he looks like a young Lavonte David. Both linebackers wowed the starting offense at times.

6'9" David Knevel looks to start at tackle next year. Some say he may have started this year or at least would have played a lot if he hadn't redshirted.

It will be interesting to see how fast quarterback Johnny Stanton rebounds from his injury.

I feel strongly that I don't feel strongly either way on if Bo Pelini should be fired or not. Unless you have a donor that wants to pick up approximately $12.5 million in salaries for Bo and his assistants, then the athletic department should not fund it. An even bigger question is who wants to come to NU that will be better than Bo Pelini. There are lots of good coaches out there but how many want to come to Nebraska right now. I really don't don't know. I really don't know how good Bo really is.

I do know that we had more than our share of injuries this year. I think the coaches, team, and fans all expected much more this year with our easier schedule and most of our offense was back. But after the multiple injuries happened we were patching in all kinds of replacements who overall did a good job but they weren't as good as the starters would have been.

Nebraska can't get Chris Peterson. He is headed to Washington. Nebraska can't Sarkasian. He went to USC.

Pelini has his blood pressure go up with the sight of somebody from the press and he many times is an embarassment to himself, Nebraska, and the program. He has to figure out a way to overcome this. The press will continue to go after him so it probably won't get better until we start to win more games. Pelini is not media friendly.

Tim Miles is and his is still in his honeymoon period with the Nebraska people and media. But Tim Miles takes a positive approach to meeting with the media. Really Bo Pelini never has. If he can't do it then they need a spokesman for the team and keep Pelini out of it. Of course he should take a cut in pay for giving up part of his responsibilities.

Dirk Chatelain asks the question of why we play a South Carolina St. but we don't play an UNO 60 miles away. Good question.

Nebraska basketball played much better against Miami Fla the other night. They will be competitive but don't set the bar too high as they have much to improve yet.

Walter Pitchford has zero turnovers this year.

Nebraska climbed from 105th to 92nd in the Pomeroy ratings. Quite a jump. Nebraska is projected to have a losing season this year and to only win one in every three games in the Big 10. Hopefully we will do better and we are improving.

Tomorrow we play Creighton in Omaha. It will be a very tough fame. Creighton should win this one. Doug McDermott is somebody we  can't really match up with. We have to keep him down to win.

PREDICTION
CREIGHTON 64
NEBRASKA 56

The story today will be the Nebraska women's volleyball team playing Oregon in Lincoln to advance in the NCAA tournment. Should be a great game and I think NU will beat them this time!!!

Nebraska got a commit from a Juco defensive back from Mississippi named Byerson Cockrell. Not highly rated by Rivals, Inc. but we do know that they miss many ratings. Nebraska will need cornerbacks and dime and nickel backs next year. We lose a lot at those positions. NU is looking at especially replacing Ciante Evans at nickel. Cockrell had offers from Middle Tennessee State, Northern Colorado, and Southern Mississippi. NU must see a lot that others aren't.

I am glad global warming is here. I wonder how cold it would be without it.

Nebraska and Iowa Prediction!

Prediction
Nebraska 23
Iowa 17

Iowa was 4-8 last year and they have improved to 7-4 so far in 2013. Three of Iowa's losses combined to lose just three games this season.

Jake Rudock is the Iowa quarterback. Rudock has a 60% completion rate and has 2,155 yards in passing and 16 touchdowns. He also has 12 interceptions and will be a factor Friday!

Rudock can also run the ball he has 210 yards rushing and five touchdowns.

Iowa has a great running back bunch. Mark Weisman has 865 yards and five touchdowns, Damon Bullock has 467 yards and one touchdown, and Jordan Canzeri has 273 yards rushing.

Kevonie Martin-Manley leads the Iowa receivers with 37 catches for 324 yards and three TDs. Their hottest receiver right now is Tevaun Smith who has 24 catches for 310 yards. They do throw well to the tight ends and this could be an important factor. TE CJ Fiedorowicz has 23 catches for 230 yards and five touchdowns.

Linebacker Anthony Hitchens leads Iowa on defense with 95 tackles and 13 of these have been for losses. Also linebacker James Morris has 90 tackles and Christian Kirksey has 86 tackles.  By the way defensive lineman Drew Ott (Giltner Ne) has 46 tackles this year.

Iowa's defense is very good. They are third in the Big Ten in yardage allowed with 304.5 yards a game.

The Iowa offensive line has only given up 10 sacks this year. This will be something that Nebraska must overcome to be successful.

I believe that Ron Kellogg will start on Senior Day. It is unknown if Tommy Armstrong can even play. Jamal Turner should play. Offensive linemen that have been hurt are Sirles, Cotton, Pensick, and Moudy should get to play.

Alonzo Moore is out for NU due to a knee problem.

Go Big Red!!!!

Calvin Strong leads Omaha to Class A title!

Calvin Strong is said by many to be the best back Nebraska has had since maybe Danny Woodhead. Strong ran 39 times for 197 yards and Omaha North beat Omaha Westside 23-21. Strong is only a junior. Hopefully Nebraska offers him soon.

Jamal Turner may play this week against Iowa. Thad Randle is questionable and so is Tommy Armstrong. If Armstrong can't play Ryker Fyfe would play if Kellogg gets hurt.

Nebraska is favored by three point against Iowa Friday.

The Nebraska women's basketball team is ranked No. 10!!!

Nebraska win felt good!

While I was deer hunting Saturday afternoon I also had my earplugs in so I could here the game. What a great win! What a great feeling when Pat Smith drilled the field goal in overtime to win. Nebraska 23 Penn State 20.

If Nebraska would have lost the game would have been focussed on the horrible call on Sam Burtch when Abdullah scored. Bad bad call.

The statistics for the game were almost even. Total yardage was almost the same.

Nebraska's fumbles are hurting them. We are second to last in the nation with 15.

Allen Robinson, one of the top receivers in the nation, had 8 catches for 106 yards. Jean-Baptiste played pretty well against him at times.

The overtime win puts Nebraska at 7-1 in overtime games. Nebraska is 10-1 when Big 10 games are decided by 10 or fewer points.

Ron Kellogg played a good game when Armstrong got hurt. Nice to have a couple of quarterbacks that can play if needed.

Iowa may be the most physical team NU plays this season. This game will be close. A win will be great. I wouldn't have been surprised if Iowa was favored but Nebraska is favored by three points.

Random Thoughts

Michigan St may give Ohio St. a pretty good game in the Big 10 Championship.

York's Glen Snodgrass is one of the top coaches in high school football in Nebraska. He has turned around a York program that has had losing seasons for a while. He was very successful at Overton previous to that.

Ameer Abdullah continues to impress us! Another 147 yards on Saturday.

Jordan Westerkamp has become our top target in receiving, it seems.

Nebraska has won 11 of its last 13 Big 10 games.!!

I'm guessing Ron Kellogg will start this Friday.

Our punt returns are getting worse rather than better.

We don't play Penn State again until 2017 unless it is for the Big 10 title which probably isn't going to happen.

Friday, November 22, 2013

Nebraska Prediction!

Weather looks to be 40 mph winds and rain tomorrow for the Penn State game. That usually means the team that can hold on to the ball wins. The team that runs the ball well wins. Nebraska has four starting offensive linemen that are game time decisions.Sirles, Moudy, Pensick, and Jake Cotton are all troubled by injuries.

Nebraska can run the ball well. They need to win this weekend.

Nebraska 13
Penn State 10

The Nebraska basketball team dropped their second game of the season against UAB. UAB shot 83% in the second half.

Nebraska needs to win out!

Yes Nebraska needs to upset (mild) Penn State this week away and then find a way to beat Iowa at home the day after Christmas. I believe Nebraska will get a tough bowl game against a SEC team. It would be nice to get a Missouri to play versus LSU.

Oh my Nebraska looked like they would win last Saturday versus Michigan St. with about nine minutes to go. It just felt like NU had the momentum and they were only six points down after committing five turnovers. Just didn't happen but NU looked ever good as a team as Michigan St. You just can't have turnovers.

The NU men's basketball team will have Gallegos and Biggs in the lineup and this will probably limit some time for a couple of backup players. We will see who that is.

Six Undefeated Teams Left in College Football!

Here is a list of the remaining undefeated teams with their rankings and recrod.

No. 1 Alabama 9-0
No. 2 Florida St. 9-0
No. 3 Ohio St. 9-0
No. 4 Baylor 8-0
No. 16 Fresno St. 9-0
No. 20 Northern Illinois 9-0
Nebraska 7-2

The remaining teams' records for each undefeated team.
Alabama 21-8
Florida St. 10-18
Ohio St. 13-14
Baylor 26-12
Fresno St. 8-10
Northern Illinois 16-13
Nebraska 19-9

Records of teams' played so far this year.
Alabama 42-45
Florida St. 48-36
Ohio St. 39-45
Baylor 36-38
Fresno St. 34-50
Northern Illinois 28-59
Nebraska 41-41

Points Differential
1. Baylor 488-123 +365
2. Florida St. 468-108 +360
3. Ohio St. 434-153 +281
4. Alabama 368-95 +273
5. Northern Illinois 398-225 +173
6. Fresno St. 399-242 +157
Nebraska 323-205 +118

Looking at those stats, you could give the nod to Florida St. or Baylor over Alabama. Florida St. has the easiest road to bowl season and they have a great chance to be No. 1 at the regular season's end.  Alabama plays at No.  7 Auburn on November 30th. Florida is at Florida on ovember 30th. Baylor plays at No. 12 Oklahoma St. on November 23rd. They are all tough games and one ,two, or three of these mentioned teams will get beat.

If they all get beat that would probably put Ohio St. No. 1 as it looks like they should win out. Their toughest game will be at Michigan on November 30th.

Nebraska plays another tough team this week in Michigan St. This will be their toughest game so far. The closest team to Michigan St. would be UCLA but I think MSU will be even tougher.

Nebraska is much improved since the UCLA. I think they are better offensively and they are better defensively. If Nebraska loses this game, Michigan St. clinches the division. BIG GAME!

PREDICTION
Michigan St. 23 Nebraska 21

Predicted Finish
Nebraska 9-3

Bowl Game
LSU or Auburn in the Gator Bowl.
If that's true we will be the underdog by 6-8 points.

Nebraska has quite the weekend!

The NU women are the new BIG 10 soccer champions! They have also earned a NCAA berth. The Huskers shutout the Iowa Hawkeyes 1-0.

The NU women's volleyball team won two matches this weekend. They beat Wisconsin and yesterday they beat No. 9 Minnesota at Minnesota 25-22, 15-25, 27-25, 15-25, and 15-11. No. 2 Penn State is leading the league by one game over Nebraska.

Of course by now you know that the NU football played great and beat Michigan 17-13 at Michigan. The NU defense played great. I think they must of watched the film as to how Michigan St. defended them. Same results. Michigan's offense is not very good right now. I am proud of the NU defense and how they have improved the past couple of weeks. Time for the Blackshirts again.

Tommy Armstrong really played well the last drive. Really well. He will be a good quarterback in the future. Abdullah is one of the best running backs in the nation. How about that block by Alonzo Moore when Kenny Bell caught the fourth and two pass on the final drive.

Injuries are hurting the offense. So far those hurt include Taylor Martinez, Spencer Long, Jamal Turner, Jeremiah Sirles, Jake Cotton, and others including Jake Long, Kenny Bell, and Wil Richards. Have the starters are hurt so we need to remember that.

The Big 10 is so physical. The last three years have had the Huskers really beat up by the end of the season. You need lots of depth to play in this league.

And then there was the NU women's BB team that annihilated the UCLA Bruins in the first real basketball game in the arena Friday at noon. They won hands down with Jordan Hooper having 27 points.

I attended the NU men's basketball game on Friday night. Oh my Gosh, what fun. Tommy Lee and the band entertained us with an awesome piece. Interesting idea to have the band on the BB floor. The lighting and sound systems were awesome. Karmin sang the National Anthem and it is fun to listen to such great talent.

I expected Nu to get beat or win in a close one but NU dominated them. Florida Gulf Coast was a disappointment. The NU team were great. Yse, a team that played so well together. They reminded me of the Princeton teams a few years ago that did well in the NCAA tournament. Well coached, playing defense, playing as a team, and getting all they can out of the talent. How refreshing.

Michigan State is this week in football and that should be very interesting.

Nebraska basketball, an experience!!

What fun it was at the NU BB game last night. The arena atmosphere was great. What a nice venue. The whole experience was just a lot of fun. The band  performance and lighting was like no other I have ever seen at a basketball game. Tommy Lee joined in and wow what a sound system.

Then Karmin sang the national anthem and what a great moment that was. Just beautiful.

Having more of the students on the floor should help the atmosphere as long as they keep showing up and why shouldn't they. They have the best seats in the house.

The NU basketball team is well coached. They really play as a team. Unselfish. Fun to watch. They will be better than last in the Big 10.

Florida Golf Coast was a disappointment. I am not sure how good they are. They didn't impress.

So NU basketball has started. The women beat the No. 25 team in the nation 77-49. That's impressive.

Now on the NU football. NU has lots of injuries. I think the loss of Spencer Long may hurt us the most. But Michigan is maybe even more beat up. I head says Michigan by three or four points but we are going with the heart today. We will call it the "Hail Mary" carryover.

NU 27 Michigan 24

Go Defense!! Go Big Red!!

Wednesday, November 06, 2013

Wow just about hit the exact score last week!

The prediction last week was 28-24 Nebraska. The final was 27-24. Of course we were lucky to win. What an ending to a so-so game. There wasn't a lot of excitement for a while but it was so fun to watch the defense make the Wildcats put eleven times in row. I will take that kind of so-so any day.

The ending was great. It has to go up there with "feel good" plays with the Stutz to Crouch pass against Oklahoma in Lincoln a few years ago. It is probably ahead of the Maurice Purify TD catch vs. Texas A & M during the Calahan era that won the game at the end. It is similar to the Alex Henery 57 yard field goal against Colorado to win the game.

Now this week we go to Michigan. This is not an easy chore although Michigan is down this year. This week's prediction reflects another close game. Can the Huskers pull out another miracle. We will see.

Another close contest!

Nebraska plays an 0-4 Northwestern tomorrow in what could be a heck of a game. Northwestern has injuries and they are better than their conference record of 0-4. NU is coming off a loss at Minnesota. Tommy Armstrong starts for NU and will utilize the talent around him to get 28 points. The defense steps up with some personnel changes and holds Northwestern to 24 points this week.

What's wrong???

I guess yesterday's games creates a lot of questions. Even more than I had before. I thought the game would be close but NU would win. Minnesota is better than most think and Nebraska just isn't that good right now.

I have always wanted what's best for Nebraska. I haven't joined the Fire Pelini group yet. But why aren't we playing better. Talent? Coaching? Both?

Minnesota made 7.7 yards on first down!! Can't win with that.

Imani Cross ran two times for four yards.

The Minnesota tight ends could have caught 400 total yards if they would have ran their pass play more. ???? Iowa might kill us with their tight ends.

Nebraska had won 16 games in a row vs. Minnesota!

Ameer Abdullah averaged 8.7 yards a carry and yet we passed 30 times on 60 plays.

What caused all of the dropped passes?

Re'Shede Hageman will be in the NFL soon.  He is fun to watch!

Should Tommy Armstrong or Ron Kellogg have played a series or two to see how they did? Would it had mattered? Martinez still doesn;t look right.

Minnesota was much more physical and probably faster than NU? This shouldn't happen.

I guess I am now looking forward to NU basketball. Their first exhibition game is November 4th.

Jeff Gordon won today at Martinville and Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson are tied for the season points lead.

How about these potential coaches to replace Pelini if it ever comes about? These were listed in the Bleacher report.  Nelson Briles, Baylor/Scott Frost/Oregon/David Cutcliffe/Duke/ Craig Bohl/ North Dakota St./Paul Rhodes/Iowa St.

Nebraska Prediction!

Nebraska always plays well after a bye week. At least that has been the trend. I just don't feel right about this game. I have an eerie feeling. Maybe because Halloween is here.

Last week Nebraska's previous six opponents were outscored 236 to 99. How good are we? Minnesota comes off a week that they beat Northwestern.

Minnesota is 119th in the nation in passing yards. Nebraska shouldn't be in trouble there but can Minnesota run the ball. In Big 10 play the answer is no.

Minnesota may have a 7 point edge on special teams with their return game. They may have a five point advantage with the home field.

The question is if Minnesota can run. I think they can be mildly successful at times.

The predictions for this game are mostly like 42-7 for Nebraska.

The eerie feeling tells me:
Nebraska 27 Minnesota 24

Hard to believe that Quincy Enunwa would have one more catch, 70 more yards, and four more touchdowns than Kenny Bell at this point.

Randy Gregory is awesome!

Ameer Abdullah has a 7.2 yards per carry average. Real nice.

It will be interesting to see how Taylor Martinez will do today. He has to be a little rusty. He will start today.

I feel bad for Jerry Kill. I think he is a great coach.

The Holdrege Dusters don't appear to have made the football playoffs. I thought they would make it in. They had a better than expected season this year.

13 days until the Nebraska men's BB opener vs. Florida Golf Coast.

BYU has accepted an invite to the Fight Hunger Bowl.

Huskers Back Home for Key Big Ten Weekend

Sport Shorts!

Taylor Martinez is a game time decision on Saturday. Minnesota is inspired with Coach Jerry Kill's health. Look to this game to go to the final seconds to determine the winner. Nebraska is favored by 10.

Looks like Suuth Sioux City and Columbus are going back to Class A in football. Omaha Benson  and Lincoln Pius are projected to go back to Class B. Hard to believe Benson is Class B.

This year's NU baseball recruiting class is rated 11th.

Jordan Hooper has been named to the preseason Top 30 list for the Wooden Award.

Jared Karlson and Walker Hohensee from Holdrege defend Class B Doubles Championship!

Holdrege's Jared Karlson and Walker Hohensee won the Class B tennis doubles championship again this year. Champions in 2012 and now 2013! Runner-ups in 2011.

Coached by Ray Ruybalid, the duo beat Omaha Skutt's Andrew Johnson and Zachary Pohlman 6-4,  7-6 (7-4) at the Abbots Sports Complex in Lincoln. The coach said the difference this year was mental toughness. Karlson/Hohensee were 34-0 this year.

Congrats to Jared and Walker, Coach Ruybalid, and the entire Holdrege tennis team!!!

Nebraska lands new football recruit!

It has been six weeks since we got our last commit. Today we got our 13th commit with Joshua Kalu. He is a three star safety from Houston. He chose Nebraska over Houston, Wake Forest, and Colorado.

Presently Nebraska is 48th in recruiting in the nation and seventh in the Big 10 according on the 247 national rankings.

Tennessee fired their band director today. That doesn't happen very often.

Men's BB coach Tim Miles wants the Huskers to have better discipline and decision making. We will need everything for this year's schedule. Miles likes how Walter Pitchford has evolved.

The basketball team has injuries. Tai Webster has a sprained ankle and has missed the past four practices. Freshman Tim Walker suffered a dislocated ankle and is lost for the season. He had eight screws and two plates inserted during his surgery.

Leslee Smith has been slowed by knee and hamstring problems.

The team has voted Shavon Shields, Terran Petteway, and Ray Gallegos as their captains. Shields and Petteway are sophomores. Miles says Petteway is his hardest worker.

Miles says he wants to run a fast, aggresive, attacking, fun style of play this season.

Kentucky is the preseason #1 in college basketball. Louisville is #2. Michigan St., Kansas, and Duke follow. Ohio St. is #9, Michigan #10, and Wisconsin #14.

Former Michigan St. wide receiver BJ Cunningham has signed to the Philadelphia Eagles active roster.

I hate that Spencer Long was injured Saturday with a knee injury. The All American may be out for the season. Let's hope not.

Nebraska will kickoff at 11:00 am against Minnesota on October 26th.

Nebraska will play the Oregon Ducks in 2016 and 2017. Wow!

Can anybody beat Alabama? History says yes!

In Nascar, Brian Vickers is out for the rest of the year with a bllod clot.

New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham is out for a while with a leg injury. That will make some fantasy owners upset.

The St. Louis Cardinals are up 2-0 over the Dodgers. Third game is 2 to 0 Dodgers in the eighth.

Nebraska Prediction

Have you heard of Darrell Hazell before?  He is the Purdue head coach. He was previously at Kent State. Hazell isn't afraid to shake things up. This week he has changed to a true freshman at quarterback, changed personnel in the offensive line, and even changed the defense.

Purdue has been getting blown out by most teams. Their only win was against Indiana St by seven points. But don't forget Nebraska hasn't played real well against mediocre teams this year.

Will this be a breakout game for Nebraska. Let's hope so but my gut says a close game.

Nebraska 28 Purdue 21

Good and the bad from the Illinois game.

Good

Fun game to watch!!

The offensive line dominated. Really dominated! One of their best performances in the last few years.

Tommy Armstrong Jr. looks pretty good.

Kenny Bell's one-handed grab for a touchdown. Doesn't get much better than that.

Ameer Abdullah running for 225 yards!

Bad

Where were the students for the game? About a fourth of them didn't show up and half were gone at halftime. Couldn't be because of the weather. Near perfect. Pretty disappointing and if it continues we need to reduce the student tickets so those that want to go to the game will support the team.

There was much confusion especially at the end of the game for defensive substitutions!

With that confusion there were penalties assessed.

Talking Twin Babies - discussing the government shutdown

Tommy Armstrong starts against Illinois!

Tommy Armstrong makes his second start this Saturday. This means Taylor Martinez is still not 100% and that the coaches have a lot of faith in his ability and Ron Kellogg's ability. Armstrong seems to have more open receivers because he seems to get the ball to them when they are open.

Also David Santos starts this week at the MIKE linebacker.

NU Prediction and NU basketball!

Saturday will be the first Big 10 game. Illinois will be a formidable opponent. Nebraska's defense will again be challenged. Another test. How good or bad are they?  Will they improve with the bye week? Nebraska's three victories have come against Wyoming, Southern Mississippi, and South Dakota. These teams were outscored by 123-28 last weekend. Wyoming's opponent was Texas St. South Dakota St.'s opponent was North Dakota St. Boise St. beat Southern Miss. 60-7.

So how good is Nebraska? Game statistics are not impressive. This week will be another game to see where our place is in the national scene.

I would like to watch Tommy Armstrong r. and/or Ron Kellogg again this week. I think our offense clicks better with them playing.

This will be a "findout how good we are" game. At least it should give us an indication. In the second half versus South Dakota St., Nebraska held the Jackrabbits to 176 yards.

This week's prediction:

Nebraska 42 Illinois 28

Excitement is nearing for Nebraska basketball. There was an article in the paper today about Bill Fuller, a sharpshooter from Madison, Wisconsin. He is a freshman on the NU basketball team. He was heavily recruited by Minnesota and Butler. Sounds like this guy can shoot and Nebraska hasn't had many that were great shooters in the past several years. It will be fun to see how he does.

42 days and 30 practices until NU takes on Florida Golf Coast on November 8, 2013.
