The Big 10 has a great team in Michigan St and a team that is not too far behind in Purdue but then who comes next?  Probably Minnesota but Nebraska can't be too far behind them.  I'm thinking a NCAA tournament berth in 2018!!

Way to go Husker Volleyball!!

The Cinderella story of the Nebraska Women's Volleyball team has been completed. They are the National Champions for 2017. This is the fifth championship for the Nebraska Cornhuskers! This last victory was our eighth appearance in the final game. Nebraska is 5-3 and 4-1 under John Cook.

The following is from Noteworthy Numbers in the Omaha World-Herald Sunday.

Nebraska was 12-3 against ranked opponents in 2017, including 7-0 against teams in the top 10 and 4-0 against teams in the top five.

John Cook is 66-14 in NCAA tournament at Nebraska. With the win, he became the fourth coach with four NCAA championships.

Annika Albrecht, a second team All-American, played her 21st career NCAA tournament match, which tied an NU record.

This year was the ninth time in 11 seasons that a Big Ten team has reached the NCAA final. Big Ten squads have gone 8-2 in those appearances with Penn State beating Wisconsin in 2013.

WHAT A GREAT WIN!!

It was so fun last night when Nebraska pulled out the win. I don't think I wanted us to win more than last night in quite a while. I am definitely not one to go against the Huskers so that we can get another coach. I am a Nebraska fan!

What an amazing win! I had to goback and watch the game again today! Like every close game there are so many key points in the game that could have changed it completely. Purdue dropped three touchdown passes. We had so many key plays brought back by holding! The Marcus Newby tackle for a two yard loss when they were ready to score was key. They ended up with a field goal that time instead of a touchdown.

I was totally impressed with Jaylin Bradley. He ran seven times for 45 yards and caught three passes for 31 yards. He just found the offensive line holes a little better than Devine Ozigbo seemed to do. But I love Devine Ozigbo!  He caught key passes on that final drive and he got our of bounds to save key seconds on the clock. He was key in the win also. Ozigbo caught six passes for 39 yards.

Tanner Lee was very impressive. He had the best quarterback performance since Taylor Martinez against Oklahoma St in a year I can't remember. He had 431 yards passing which is the fourth most ever tied with Zach Taylor in a game in 2005 vs Iowa St. That game went into two overtimes. Tanner Lee hit many receivers perfectly. Unbelievable performance.

The two key receivers were Stanley Morgan and Tyler Hoppes. Morgan catches six passes for 112 yards and the winning touchdown. Tyler Hoppes made some amazing catches. What great hands!! He may have been the MVP for this game!!  Great to see a tight end receive passes!

On the defensive side of the ball I really liked hits by Chris Weber. The defensive line did well most of the time. Carlos Davis had five tackles. Lamar Jackson had some great hits! Joshua Kalu is our best tackler or at least as good as Weber.

It seemed like we had a lot of players down on the field hurt. I think some of those could be avoided if they just get off the field if they can. Some injuries you just can't do that but when a player comes in two plays later could he have just got off the field??

Next week is going to be tough with Northwestern. We can win it but it will take another great game.

Nebraska prediction for today!

Nebraska got off to a bad start this season. It has taken time for NU to get used to the 3-4 defense but we are improving each week and I think we will do well today. Wisconsin isn't that powerful!  If we can get some pressure on their quarterback we will get some turnovers! He is no where as good as Hebert was for Oregon.

Nebraska also has thrown way too many interceptions to win games. Some of them have been pick sixes. Last week that didn't happen. Today I predict we will have just one turnover. One fumble or one interception.

The key to the game is Nebraska has to be able to run the ball. If so that will set up the pass. I am predicting a B+ game by the offensive line today. They become something bigger today!!

This time Nebraska pulls out a win in the last minute!!!

Nebraska gets win two tomorrow!

Nebraska plays Northern Illinois tomorrow in what should be a pretty tough games. Northern Illinois is known as the Big Ten Killer. In the past few years they have beaten Northwestern, Iowa, and Purdue. They also almost upset Ohio State in 2015,

NI is coached by Rod Carey who is in his fifth year. Their record is the same as Nebraska at 1-1 for 2017. Rod Carey is 3-1 in the Big 10.

They are scoring 29 points per game this year and have averaged five yards a carry in rushing. Total offense is 433 yards per game.

On the defensive side of the ball they are giving up 16.5 points per game and 263 total yards per game. They have only given up 104 rushing yards and 159 passing yards per game.

NI plays with tempo and will throw the bubble screens until we stop them. They use two quarterbacks, Ryan Graham and Daniel Santacaterina. Love that name.

If NI gets off to a hot start the crowd and coaches could get very tense. Lets hope that doesn't happen.

This will be NI's first road game.

NI lost their starting quarterback earlier in the season opener.

Nebraska has three key injuries for this game in Kalu, Bryant, and Knevel.

Hoping for a big improvement in game three with a prediction of

Sport Shorts!!

Questions so far for the Nebraska football team.

1, Where is the pressure to the quarterback on defense?
2. Where is Devine Ozigbo?
3. Was the real Nebraska defense in the first half or second half or was it not the real Oregon offense in the second half?
4, Where is Wyatt Mazour in our passing attack?
5. Why isn't DEP returning more punts? Could he have went for a touchdown on the last fair catch?
6. Will the team keep improving each week to where they can play with anybody by the last game?

I don't have the answers to these but I have thought a lot about them since the game Saturday night. We outscored Oregon 35-28 after about two and a half minutes into the first quarter.

Nebraska isn't a Top 25 team yet but I think they will be there by the end of the regular season.

Nebraska is not up to speed with Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Georgetown transfer Isaac Copeland will be eligible to play all season. Very exciting. He was rated five star out of high school.

Saturday, September 09, 2017

You won't believe this prediction!

Nebraska goes against Oregon today. Oregon should have won the game in Lincoln last year but messed up their time management thankfully! Now we go to Oregon to play and it should be a great game!!

Royce Freeman is the key. We have to keep him under a 110 yards and then hold their second and third team backs also, They are very fast.

On offense the quarterbacks are even. They may have an edge on running back but I think we have the edge at the receiver position. Tight ends and the offensive lines are a push. Look to Mikale Wilbon carrying the ball much more today.

On defense we are better in the line. The linebackers and cornerbacks are even. We should have the edge at safety with Kalu.

Nebraska has the special team advantage and Oregon has the home field.

Look to Eric Lee and Joshua Kalu to have interceptions today. Freedom and Luke Gifford will get sacks. Nebraska will throw an interception or two.

Most think Oregon will win today by a score of something like 48-35.

My prediction is Nebraska 28-27 in a win and a much lower score than most think.

Nebraska 6-man player is the long snapper for Georgia Southern!

Ryan Langan was playing 6-man football a year ago for Riverside and now is the long snapper for Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern is a team that keeps on improving. Riverside won the 6-man title last year. Langdan is #82 and is from Cedar Rapids, Nebraska.  This past week Georgia Southern was beaten by Auburn 41-7.

Lee Barfknecht and Steve Sipple were critical of Bob Diaco not talking to the press after the game Saturday night. They said he owed it to the fans. I could care less about what he has to say, I think he is a great coach and I want us to win so coach them up. Do the talking later.

The offense gave up a safety and special teams gave up a punt return for a touchdown. The punt return was kind of freakish as it looked like we may get a turnover but ...........

The defense had trouble with the bubble screen and some running plays. It took them a long time to get it stopped but Arkansas St got way to many yards and did too much of what they wanted to do.

The offense looks like it can score about every time they get the ball. This week Oregon's defensive coach is Jim Levitt and he is really good. We will see how good we are.

Liberty College knocked off Baylor this last weekend. Liberty College is coached by Turner Gill. I think Ron Brown is still there. Their QB threw 60 times.

Tre Bryant was a big surprise to me. He looks like he is fast and tough!!

I like seeing Marcus Newby and Luke Gifford on the field at the same time. Makes sense!!

After this last week I am guessing Oregon will be favored next week by 8-10 points.

Friday, September 01, 2017

And the season begins,,,,,,,,

Nebraska plays Arkansas St. tomorrow. They are expected to win nine games this year and go to a bowl game. They will be a formidable opponent!  This will be like McGregor versus Mayweather. McGregor will start pretty fast and give us a pretty big scare early but NU will dominate and win the game.

Our defensive front will have a great game. Look at the defense to have four plus sacks and three turnovers or more.

Tanner Lee will hit 65% of his passes or more. There will be a lot of short passes and screens. The defensive secondary will get beat here and there but overall will have a pretty good game.

I like Lindsay and Spillman to have great games. Morgan and Pierson-El will do very well. Reimers will have an exceptional game. Ozigbo will lead us in rushing.

The hero tomorrow will be Tyler Hoppes! He will have five catches and a couple of touchdowns.

Nebraska wins 38-16!!!!!!

Terance Crawford has all four belts of the welterweight division. What a performer and he is from Omaha Nebraska. I have been following Crawford since he became a pro and he is now in the top three as the best pound for pound fighter. What an electric crowd last night in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Dillon Whyte, a heavyweight is one to watch. He had the hardest punches last night and he looks like he is headed to some great things.

Tom Brady hit Rex Burkhead for a touchdown last night. It was a 25 yard catch. Burkhead had three catches for 50 yards.

The fight in Lincoln last night drew the biggest crowd ever for a fight in Nebraska.

Nebraska Football Starts Today!

The Nebraska football team had their first fall practice for the 2017 year today. Nick Stoltenberg is now weighing 315. Peyton Newell is moving to middle guard. Josh Kalu is still at safety. Tre Bryant took most of the first team reps today.

The predictions have Nebraska with an average win total of seven this year. They also have NU finishing third or fourth in the Big Ten West. With no more key injuries NU will finish better than that.

Sport Shorts!

This Thursday the NFL draft starts in Philadelphia. The starting time is 7 pm on ESPN. Thursday night they will have Round 1. On Friday they will do Rounds 2-3. Saturday they do Rounds 4-7.

Nebraska has had a least two players drafted since 1969. In 1993 they reduced the draft from 20 rounds to seven.

Nebraska had 11 players picked in 1976. The most impressive draft was after National Championship #2 in 1973 when we had three drafted but six were drafted in the first three rounds. Johnny Rodgers went in the first round to San Diego. In 1972 we had three round one draft picks.

In 2013 we only had two players drafted. Last year we had four.

So who will be this year's draftees? Will we get two. Cethan Carter looks like he will make it. Nebraska will probably have to depend on Nate Gerry to be the second one drafted if we again get to two.

Nebraska landed a verbal commitment from Chase Williams who is a four star athlete from California. He will likely play cornerback or wide receiver. This is our fourth commitment from California. Out of our eight commitments five are four stars!!

Nebraska is now No.9 in recruiting for the 2018 class.

When are we going to get Mario Goodrich as a commitment. I think it will come soon!

Nebraska basketball picked up a center in Duby Okeke (okay-kay). He will be a grad transfer. He has a 7'4" wingspan and had the record for Winthrop of 165 blocks. He averaged on 4 points and 4 rebounds a game but he should be a defensive force underneath in the Big 10. Nebraska also got a huge recruit in Thomas Allen. He is a great shooter and will help the team immediately.

I would have to give the MVP award to Russell Westbrook after today's press conference when he emphasized team over himself. Very good!

Nebraska baseball won 9-4 over Minnesota to take the series today. Jake Meyers goes to 6-1 although he needed the bats to win today.

Nebraska had the second biggest spring game attendance at 78,312. First was Ohio St. at 80,134. Alabama had 74,326 and was third.

Russell Westbrook had the first three straight 30-point triple double in NBA history.

Red White game today!!

Football starts again today!!  It should be exciting!

What to look for? Well everybody wants to see how good Tanner Lee is or Patrick O'Brien? And then there is our new defense. What's that going to look like?

There are always some no-names that come out of this game as our next top players. Many times their play in the Red White game never means anything but it gives us something to talk about.

My surprises today is Wyatt Mazour, running back, and J.D. Spielman, receiver, on offense. On defense I will go with two linebackers in Avery Roberts and Mohammed Berry. I think they will have a breakout game.

Players I really want to do good on offense is Patrick O,Brien at quarterback, and Matt Snyder at tight end. I think if these guys play real well it means a good future. Tanner Lee will probably start this fall at quarterback but Patrick O'Brien will be a factor before the season is over.

On defense, I want Luke Gifford to have a great game. I have always liked watching him. I also like Marcus Newby. We need the depth at outside linebacker. I'm interested in how Mick Stoltenberg does against our center. I think he is going to be all Big 10 this year. The change for Freedom Akinmoladun is also key. Can he play defensive end in the new 3-4.

Our offense line has to gel!!  Hopefully they are getting better. I am interested in the starters. Is Nick Gates back? Has he recovered from the bowl game? How good is Boe Wilson? Is Jalin Barnett going to be a factor this year? Is David Knevel improved?

I am interested in watching our Tyler Hoppes at tight end and Conor Young, Keyan Williams, Bryan Reimers at receiver.

Is Alex Davis quick enough to play outside linebacker? Is this his year? I think the Davis twins will be very good.

So we have lots of players and positions to watch. Should be exciting!!

Yesterday Nebraska got a Top 50 player on Rivals in Brendan "Bookie" Radley-Hines. He is a defensive back and it is a huge pickup!!  I would guess we will get 2-4 more commitments in the next three days or so. This is a team changing weekend for Nebraska. Twenty 4 Star recruits are in Lincoln!!

Nebraska basketball is after 6'11 Brady Ernst from Clinton Iowa. He originally was at Iowa St but transferred to a Juco college. Ernst was a three star recruit out of high school and was rated ahead of Michael Jacobson.

Nick Fuller is going to South Dakota to play for Craig Smith who was an assistant coach at Nebraska.

Sport Shorts!

Baseball started today. The San Francisco Giants' great pitcher Madison Bumgarner hit two home runs and they still lost 6-5. Of course I have Bumgarner on my fantasy baseball team.

Bob Diaco's fired-up defense dominated Saturday's scrimmage for the Huskers.

The Nebraska baseball teams RPI has jumped up 38 spots this weekend to No. 59 after two wins at Indiana.

Samuel McKewon from the Omaha World-Herald says Tristan Gebbia looked very sharp against the lower defenses. He gets the ball out quick, and not in a panicky way. He can feel pressure too.

It is reported that New Mexico AD Paul Krebs may make a run at Tim Miles, who is hanging by a thread at NU.

I will make this prediction for tomorrow night.

The Mississippi State Women's basketball team upset Connecticut two days ago and ended their record 111 -game winning streak. Today they lost to South Carolina 67-55, their SEC rival.

Nebraska tied in their game today 1-1 because of a travel curfew but they won the series over Indiana 2-0-1,

Adrian Peterson is meeting with the Pats. They already have Rex Burkhead!!! That would make an interesting combo.

Miles stay or go!

Tim Miles will be staying! Shawn Eichorst has given the word. You can argue both ways on whether that should have happened.

Last year we replaced our women's basketball coach and hired Amy Williams. She's a good coach but most times when you change the coach you have a time where you have to rebuild the program. We lost one key player and a couple of great recruits. The team will get better! But it will take some time so have patience.

I would guess that the AD, the fans and most of the players didn't want to go through a rebuilding period. We seen it with the women's team; we've seen it when we have changed coaches in football.

Nebraska does have some pretty good players coming back and will be new players joining the men's basketball.

Let's take a look at the players. Out of high school this bunch was rated really high.

Copeland five star
Watson four star
Morrow four star
Gill four star
Palmer four star
Roby four star
Tshimanga three star
Horne three star
Jacobson three star
Akenton three star
Fuller three star
McVeigh
Taylor

They will have eight players who were rated in the Rivals 150. Let's hope we don't lose more than one of two of the players who may not play much in the future.

Miles has taken five years to put this together and he should probably coach them. No doubt they will have to do well next year or........

The attendance has been great at NU so that is still a positive also. Hopefully they will be better next year and the fans will continue to support.

It sounds like Tanner Lee and Patrick O'Brien are neck and neck in the quarterback race. Langdorf has said they will grade every practice and whoever grades the best in the spring will start out in the fall as No.1. The No, 1 factors will be accuracy and completion percentage. This is like Tom Osborne used to do it. Tanner Lee is a slightly better passer but O'Brien brings the ability to run as a factor. Should be interesting.

My guess right now is Lee will gain No. 1 due to experience but O'Brien may be No.1 before the season is complete. Just a guess.

Langsdorf said Stanley Morgan has been looking really good at receiver, and added that guys like J.D. Spielman, Keyan Williams, Bryan Reimers, and Gabe Rahn have also stood out this spring.

He also said Tyler Hoppes was the front runner at tight end, but added that Matt Snyder has also done well this spring. Luke McNitt is No. 3 right now.

In high school basketball at the Nebraska boy's state basketball tournament Kearney beat Omaha Central 61-50 and Norfolk beat Creighton Prep 63-59.

Rain Cancels Series Finale in Tempe

Rain Cancels Series Finale in Tempe: Due to rain in the Phoenix area today's series finale against UC Riverside has been canceled. The Huskers and Highlanders played a doubleheader on Friday, but then had the final two games of the series canceled due to rain.

What's going on in Sports!

Nebraska had a huge win yesterday. It was so exciting to watch them win a close on after it seems they have lost more than their share at the end of games. NU beat Ohio St for the first time in Columbus 58-57. Glynn Watson hit a runner off the board and was fouled with 9 seconds left. He hit the free throw and OSU couldn't get off a quality shot at the end.

NU moves up to 79th in the kenpom computer rankings. If they would win the last four games and then win two in the Big 10, well, who knows? That's a big order considering NU is an underdog in three of the remaining four Big 10 games.

The Top 10 in kenpom are:

1. Gonzaga 28-0
2. Villanova 26-2
3. West Virginia 21-6
4. Louisville 22-5
5. Florida  22-5
6. North Carolina 23-5
7. Kentucky 22-5
8. Virginia 18-8
9. Kansas 24-3
10, Baylor 22-5

Congrats to Bronson Titus who got fifth at the State Wrestling Meet and Preston Melroy who finished sixth. These two kids are from Holdrege

Also congrats to OJ Skaggs who finished second in Class D in the 285 weight division. He is from Axtell.

Indiana's Glenn Robinson III is the NBA's new dunk king. Houston's Eric Gordon won the 3-point contest.

No. 11 Wisconsin beat No. 23 Maryland 71-60 this afternoon.

Nebraska only got one running back commit in the 2017 class in Jaylen Bradley of Bellevue West. The 2018 class will probably include two or more running backs. P. J. Pledger is a four star running back NU is after. He is a former West Hills CA Chaminade College Prep standout who is headed to IMG Academy in Florida for his senior year. He is 5'8" and 185 lbs. He has already committed to play in the Army All-American Bowl for 2018.

The women's basketball team beat Indiana 67-64 today!!!  CONGRATS!!!

NU Women are playing right now in Lincoln. Love watching Nicea Eliely , a freshman out of Colorado Springs.

The men;s team needs Ed Morrow back!!! What a couple of sad losses to Ohio St. and Rutgers. Very discouraging!  NU is better than that but without Ed Morrow it struggles. The depth is not very deep!

I look to the Falcons winning by 10-14 points today over the Packers!  The Packers defense and now its offense is too injured!

Edwin Hadwin has now become the 2nd PGA golfer to shoot a 59 in the past 10 days. Entering the final round of this week's tournament Hadwin was in first place.

Bob Diaco is Nebraska's new defensive coordinator. He will install the 3-4 defense which is similar to the 5-2 defense that Devaney used. It will be very interesting to see how the personnel will be shifted to fit the new positions.

The Nebraska basketball team was outscored 26-4 at the free throw line yesterday. They got beat by Michigan by six points 91-85. Nebraska now goes 3-2 in the Big 10.

There is no doubt that Nebraska needs Ed Morrow Jr. He is an offensive big man who can help the scoring but most of all hw knows how to rebound especially on the offensive side.

Northwestern and Michigan went 22-46 from the three point line. That's tough to compete with. Opposing teams are getting a lot of good looks from the three point line.

I like the Bob Diaco hire or least what I have read about him. I hope he can do some late recruiting for us on the defensive side.  It will be interesting to see how fast we adapt to the 3-4 defense.

Sport Shorts!

Brandon Reilly made the Big Ten All-Bowl team! Congrats!

Nebraska has added five new players to the football roster! These are players that started classes at NU this semester.

One is Avery Roberts, a four star outside linebacker, who was named the Delaware Defensive Player of the Year. Roberts is possibly NU's best recruit this year.

Tristan Gebbia, a four star quarterback from Calabasas, California is also enrolled. He threw for 5,338 yards and 61 touchdowns with only 11 interceptions. He was the only QB to throw for over 5000 yards this year. He finished his career with 13,109 passing yards which is second most in California history. The all-time leader is Jake Browning, the QB at Washington.

Keyshawn Johnson Jr. is also at Nebraska. He is the son of Keyshawn Johnson, the All-Pro. Johnson was a four star receiver for Gebbia at Calabasas. He had 48 catches for 812 yards and 11 touchdowns this past year and when he was a junior he had 68 catches for 944 yards and six touchdowns. Actually Johnson will be a little late getting to Lincoln as he just had appendicitis.

Jaevon McQuitty is another four star receiver on campus. McQuitty injured his shoulder this fall but still had 39 catches for 854 yards and 12 touchdowns. He had 31 TD's during his high school career. McQuitty is from Columbus, Missouri.

The fifth player is an offensive tackle named Broc Bando. Cool name. He was from Lincoln but this past season he was the starting right tackle for the undefeated Bradenton Fla IMG Academy team.

These five players will provide help and depth at their positions. Some may make an immediate impact. This group has also been active in recruiting other players for the Huskers.

ESPN senior hoops writer Andy Katz says there is no reason Nebraska can't rise to a top team in the nation. He says just look at Wisconsin that was once a school that was just plain terrible at basketball.
Wisconsin has reached the NCAA Tournament each of the last 17 seasons. Twice they were in the Final Four.Katz says right now Wisconsin is the best in the Big 10 with Purdue Michigan State, and Indiana in the next tier. I might put Northwestern in that group too. Katz is high on Ed Morrow Jr. and says the sky is the limit for him.

Nebraska got a former five star basketball recruit Sunday by getting Isaac Copeland to be a Husker. He is 6'9" and weighs 220 lbs. Copeland was rated the No. 23 player in the nation by Rivals coming out of high school in 2014. Copeland can start playing for the Huskers in January of 2018. With Copeland, Nebraska has filled its allotment of 13 scholarships. Copeland was named to the Big East freshman team in 2014-15. He averaged 11.1 pts per game that year.

Nebraska basketball!

Nebraska plays Northwestern in Lincoln tomorrow! Northwestern has beat Texas by 19 points and was only beaten by Butler by two points. Northwestern is rated 44th in kenpom.com whereas Nebraska is rated 83rd. Northwestern is favored in this game but it should be very close with NU at home.

The Northwestern team is run by Bryant McIntosh, their point guard.

Nebraska may be without Isaiah Roby, our freshman guard, who has really helped NU as his time has increased. Roby was injured (back) in the Iowa game and is a game time decision.

Can Nebraska make it 4-0 with another upset? Can it? I say yes!!

Nebraska 67
Northwestern 65

NU football was 0-4 today in commitments at the All-Army Bowl. It was expected that NU would get one for sure and maybe two or three. No luck today!

Rex Burkhead is a free agent and there will be some teams that want him. He would fit the New England's style of offense. He would fit San Diego's style or maybe New Orleans's style too. It will be interesting to see where he goes.

Last Friday Ryker Fyfe was pressured on 17 of his 40 drop back passes. On those attempts, Fyfe was just 3-for-14 for 32 yards.

Nebraska basketball plays Iowa in Lincoln tomorrow night. Look NU to go 3-0 in the conference with a 78-73 win. Watch Iowa's Peter Jok!

land10.com just predicted the two deep roster for 2017.

They have starters on offense as:
Tanner Lee QB
Devine Ozigbo RB
Stanley Morgan Jr WR
Demornay Pierson-El WR
J D Spielman WR
Austin Allen TE
Nick Gates LT
Jerald Foster LG
Michael Decker C
Tanner Farmer RG
David Knevel RT

2nd team
Patrick O,Brien QB
Tre Bryant RB
Bryan Reimers WR
Kenyan Williams WR
Jaevon McQuitty or Keyshawn Johnson WR
Tyler Hoppes TE
Matt Farniok
Cole Conrad
John Raridon
Jalin Barnett

On the first team I am surprised with Austin Allen starting. That would be great if he can. What happened to Matt Snyder. I think Tyler Hoppes will get a lot of action.

Picking David Knevel over Cole Conrad was a surprise. I also won't be surprised if John Rarison starts at center. I will take Foster Sarell to start at right tackle if he signs with Nebraska.

If Nebraska can pick up Joseph Lewis the top receiver in the country he will play a lot!

Alex Davis is pretty good at DE but doesn't make the list. AJ Natter can play some ball too. Tyrin Ferguson may get some LB time but this position is much deeper now. Two years ago Luke Gifford started and now two years later he is second team. He has improved also.

I could see Lamar Jackson starting at CB with Kalu nickel back. DiCaprio Bootle and Marquel Dismuke gives us a lot of depth at CB. Eric Lee has disappeared and we will see if he makes a move this year. Antonio Reed has started now but is listed No. 2 in this list. Avery Roberts, an incoming freshman, may be be our next Nathan Gerry by being a great hitter.

Of course injuries will play a factor in all of this and we seem to have more than our share of injuries.

The defense looks pretty strong for next year, Our offense is untested except for the offensive line mostly and the wide receiver position. They could be better though next year too.

NU Football recuitment

A key recruit for Nebraska is Joseph Lewis the number one wide receiver in Nebraska. He plans to announce on Signing Day in February. Lew is has visited Oregon and Nebraska. He is being recruited by Coach Keith Williams and signees Tristan Gebbia and Keyshawn Johnson Jr. He says Nebraska and USC are his leaders but he is considering Arizona State and Oregon. He will visit Arizona St on January 13th and USC on January 20th.

Also 6'6" 310 lb fove star Foster Sarell is rated by some as the No.1 offensive lineman. Sarell loves Nebraska's offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh and that is why NU is still in the hunt. Sarell is from Graham, Washington. Washington and Stanford are also in the hunt for Sarell.

Sarell can help NU right away. He is that good.

Cornerback Darnay Holmes, offensive tackle Chuck Filiaga and slot receiver Jamire Calvin are Nebraska targets that are also announcing Saturday.

Calvin, a 5'9" 175 speedster, is the most likely to commit to NU according to some of the recruiting services. He likes both Keith Williams and Donte Williams.

Tom Herman has hired former NU coach Tim Beck to run the offense in Texas.

Bellvue West recruit Jaylin Bradley has qualified academically and may get an offer from NU soon. He is a running back that set a lot of records this last season.

Sounds like he will go with Nebraska if he is offered by them.

In basketball recruiting, Keyshawn Embery from Midwest Oklahoma is considering Nebraska. He is a four star point guard who is averaging 33 points a game. Embery is rated 109th by Rivals. Embery has been on the campuses of Kansas St., Nebraska, Oklahoma St. and Arkansas.

Reilly pays tribute to Foltz in final Husker game

Reilly pays tribute to Foltz in final Husker game: Senior receiver from Lincoln didn't catch his first TD pass of season until bowl game

Sport Shorts!

Nebraska (8-6) utilized a 1-3-1 defense against Maryland (13-2)and the NU men won 67-65 on Sunday This game was at Maryland and with the win at Indiana earlier last week well this makes things much more fun. Tai Webster has hit double figures in 15 straight games. He scored the last seven points vs. Maryland. Glyn Watson had 17 points.

This is the first time since 1979-1980 that Nebraska has won its first two conference games of the year in away games. The last time Nebraska has won its two first conference games was in 1979-80 when Barry Collier was our coach. That year we went 7-9.

Nebraska plays Iowa this Thursday at 8 pm. They then play at home next Sunday against Northwestern. Time TBA.

Cincinnati Bengal and former Husker Rex Burkhead had two TD runs vs. Baltimore yesterday.

The best record in the NFL goes to New England 14-2. Cleveland had the worst with a 1-15 record.

Randy Gregory had a team high seven tackles for the Cowboys yesterday.

The battle for next year's quarterback is underway. Tanner Lee, Patrick O'Brien, or Tristan Gebbia will be battling for the position. Maybe even Zach Darlington will be in the hunt.
