Nebraska will surprise!

UCLA was one of the best teams in the nation early on. They had a good chance to win the Pac-12 even into the mid-season but they didn't play as well in the last 25% of the season. This has to be a letdown and then they HAVE to play a team that is 5-7 and a joke of a team. It is embarrassing for them.

So the mental state of UCLA could definitely be one of "We don't really care. It's just time to end this season and move on to the next." It would be similar to our feelings when we killed Washington a few years ago and then had to play them again in the bowl and we got killed.

I look to Nebraska to win this in a minor upset:

Nebraska Sports Journal

There is a debate going on whether Nebraska should go to a bowl or not when they had a losing season. Some say you don't reward a team that has five wins with a bowl. However, I have to be honest that I am excited for the bowl and there is no guarantee we will have a win. In fact I will guess that UCLA has a four point advantage or something close to that.

UCLA used a true freshman this year at quarterback. Josh Rosen is from Manhattan Beach, California and stands 6'4" and weighs 210 lbs. He was 226-447 in passing which is 60%. He threw 20 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions. He directed UCLA from one game of being in the PAC-12 Championship game.

It is very rare for a freshman quarterback to do well in college football. Rosen was the BEST freshman quarterback in college football this year. The only freshman quarterback in recent history to direct their team to a National Championship was Jamelle Holieway in 1985 after Troy Aikman broke his leg. It just doesn't happen very often.

Many think Patrick O'Brien can come in next year from San Juan Capistrano, California with a build similar to Josh Rosen. Can he start over Tommy Armstrong?? It will be hard but I believe he will push him to get a chance at starting. I think Patrick O'Brien is the real thing with a chance to start as a freshman. It will be great competition.

A win over the Bruins on December 26th will go a long way into the 2016 season. Next year our schedule includes Ohio State and Oregon in addition to many of our normal Big 10 opponents.

I'm really glad we aren't playing Navy, Air Force, or some other 5-7 team. Navy is good but UCLA was rated as high as No. 7 just a few weeks ago.

Practice for the bowl game starts this Friday. This gives Tommy Armstrong some time to work on his throwing and footwork. I think Tommy Armstrong wants to do well, really well but to do that he will have to make better decisions in the bowl game. In fact he has to get better to win the job for next year.

I have to say that the defense really has improved from earlier in the season. They have been awesome against the run which is UCLA's best part of their game. They have really improved their pass defense with yet a ways to go.

One part of the offense I am interested in is our running game and who we play at running back. Terrel Newby had a few good games but we seemed to improve with Imani Cross and Andy Janovich running most of the plays. I think Devine Ozigbo needs to play more also. He has played real well when he is in the game. The better we run the better Armstrong will be passing.

So, I am looking forward to the evening of December 26th and a Nebraska victory.

Huskers win!

Wow what a game! This game made you forget for a while that we were 4=6. You forgot about it because the players played with tremendous determination. The offense can move the ball against any team right now and yes they make a few mistakes, but they are fun to watch. All except when we turn the ball over anyway.

The defense is improving each game. There was tons of gang tackling on a ton of plays. Yes they give up some yards but we ARE getting better on defense. I thought Chris Jones played his best game and it was pretty darn good.. The front four were beating MSU on a lot of plays. So good to see.

I've said all year it feels like we can beat anybody but we also can be beat by anybody. It may come down to how bad we want it and we wouldn't bad last night.

We beat Michigan St. who had a 12 game winning streak in the Big Ten in away games.

Hated to hear we were booing the play calling when we passed near the goal line and then the next play Armstrong threw a terrible pass for an interception. This happened after Imani Cross and the offensive line had ran the ball down the field. But still don't BOO!

You have to be very impressed with Imani Cross. He showed some great skills in moving quickly and then just running over people. How about Westercamp and Reilly. Excellent receivers.Unbelievable game for both of those guys.

Armstrong had a good game and ran the ball more than normal which was good.  When Armstrong is rolling out left, which is a very hard way to throw the ball, his mechanics are great and he is\at his best throwing.

NU had 7.2 yards per play Saturday against a great team. This shows NU's offense is very potent. 39 points against Michigan St. and 45 points against Purdue.

Let's keep this going. Beat Rutgers this next weekend.

Crawford saves dismal Nebraska weekend!

Terrance Crawford beat Dierry Jean in a great fight by Crawford to remain the WBO World Junior Welterweight champion. He won on a TKO in the 10th round. If you get a chance watch HBO and a replay of this fight. Exciting and Crawford is so fun to watch. A great thing to witness after the NU football team lost and the volleyball team lost two this weekend.

Crawford's next fight might be Manny Pacquiao in Manny's last fight ever in April. This would be Crawford's first PPV.

Watching Crawford two years ago in Omaha was the greatest sports event I have ever witnessed. It was his first defense of his lightweight title at that time.

The football team has lost five games by a total of 13 points. Nebraska yesterday controlled the ball almost 60% of the time. It would have helped to have our Bye week a couple of weeks ago.

A couple of really exciting games were played yesterday. Arkansas beat Auburn in 4 OT's.by 54-46 and Duke beat Virginia Tech in 4 OT's by 45-43.

At 4-3 USC may be the best college football team right now. They are very good after they fired their old coach Steve Sarkisian. Clay Helton is their interim coach and it looks to me that he is their man.

Miami fired Joe Philbin and replaced him with Dan Campbell and all the sudden they look like they could go to the Super Bowl. Campbell doesn't look like your typical coach but he is very successful in their turnaround. It will be interesting to watch these teams the rest of this season.

Kansas St. has lost four in a row which hasn't happened in ten years.

Al Golden got fired at Miami (Fla yesterday after they were beaten 58-0 by Clemson.

Clemson should make it to the four team playoffs. Others, in my opinion, would Be Ohio State, Baylor ot TCU, and LSU.

Is it sad that Temple, Duke, Toledo, and Memphis are rated and Nebraska isn't even close.

I hope our black alternate uniforms go away. Don't like them much!!
