Director of Athletics is in Holdrege Thursday!

Shawn Eichorst, the Director of Athletics at UNL, was the guest speaker at the weekly Rotary Club meeting today in Holdrege. Kyle Anderson reported there were 110 attendees for the event.

Mr. Eichorst, who was previously at the University of Miami for 18 months became the Director on January 2, 2013, taking over for the retiring Tom Osborne.

He also has experience in the Big Ten Conference serving from 2009 to 2011 as Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Operating Officer.

Shawn also worked at the University of South Carolina, serving as the Senior Associate Athletic Director from 2004 to 2006 and Interim Director of Athletics in June 2005.

Eichorst is a native of Lone Rock, Wisconsin and was an all-conference defensive back at UW-Whitewater.

He graduated magna cum laude in business in 1990 and earned a law degree from Marquette University in 1995.

Shawn praticed law in Milwaukee until 1999, when he was hired by UW-Whitewater as Director of Athletics, which he led until 2003.

Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman said it was Shawn's commitment to putting student-athletes first that made Shawn Eichorst stand out.

Shawn's emphasis on academics is well known.

Eichorst discussed the fact that three sports will have record crowds this year. They include football with the East Stadium expansion; basketball with the new Pinnacle Arena; and volleyball with the remodeled Devaney Center.

Nebraska is in good hands with Shawn Eichorst.
