2014 Highlights

2014 was a very eventful year for NU and Nebraska sports. It was easy to pick No. 1 highlight but then after that it became harder. These were the feel good moments!

1. Bud Crawford defends his WBO Lightweight Championship against Yurkorkis Gamboa at the CenturyLink in Omaha. In June I saw the best sporting event I have ever witnesses when my brother and I went to this boxing event. The crowd was absolutely crazy. Michael Buffer is better in person than he is on TV. Unbelievable. Crawford won in a knockout in the ninth round in a spectacular ending!! The boxing crowd likes to have fun! I am so glad I attended this. I had been following Terrance Crawford for the past few years and now he is the champ!  He fount in November again and won in a decision against Raymundo Beltran. Watched that one on TV but it didn't have the pizzazz as the first fight.

2. Nebraska beating Wisconsin in a No Sit Sunday crowd on March 9th to go to the NCAA tournament. Nebraska upset No. 9 Wisconsin 77-68. Terran Petteway had 26 points and 10 rebounds and this crowd cheered NU on the whole game. There was no quiet moments. NU finished the year 19-11. NU went to the NCAA tournament for the first time in many years. Also Mike Peltz proposed before the game.

3, Creighton beating Providence at the CenturyLink. Creighton beat Providence 88-73. This was the first Creighton game I have been to at CenturyLink. They have great fans. Doug McDermott hit for 45. This was his last home game. He is part of the 3000 club. It was Senior Night. Creighton was headed to the NCAA tournament. Great atmosphere.

4. Ameer Abdullah breaking six, seven, eight tackles for NU to beat McNeese St. in the final seconds. Tremendous run by Abdullah. Great win at the end in a game that wasn't supposed to be close. Relief and a victory.

5. Nebraska volleyball beating Washington on their home floor in the NCAA tournament. I watched this one on the tube but I couldn't leave the room. Great young team!

Nebraska has hired Andy Vaughn to be the Director of Football and Recruiting Operations. He comes from Nevada and has ties to Clemson.

Jack McVeigh is a 6'8" shooting guard is making an official visit to Nebraska. He played for the Australian U-18 national team and averaged 24.3 points and 10.3 rebounds. He is also making an official visit to LSU. It looks like it is down to those two teams.

Akoy Agau has two years of eligibility left and will have an unofficial visit to Nebraska. He has had visits to Marquette and Missouri-Kansas City and has Georgetown and Wichita State as teams he wants to look at. He was on the Louisville team but decided recently to transfer. He has to sit out two semesters. So he could start to play a year from now if he gets enrolled at Nebraska this semester.

Suh has been suspended from the first playoff game but is appealing.

The Minnesota Timberwolves is the worst team in the NBA.

The Boston Celtics are one of the worst teams!

The Lakers are in the bottom ten teams of the NBA.

The Miami Heat are now in the bottom half of the NBA,

The best team right now could be the Houston Rockets!

Michigan has hired Jim Harbaugh. Mike Riley was his head coach at San Diego.

Jimmy Butler continues to put up huge numbers for the Bulls.

Dallas had the second fewest sacks in the NFL this year. Way to coach Bill Callahan.
