Holy Week and Sport Shorts!

This is a very special week with Holy Week starting with Palm Sunday today and the week ending with Easter next Sunday. Say extra prayers for those in need and thank God for all he has Blessed us with. Attend church daily if possible and take some time out to read the bible each day. It is very fulfilling.

Lots of sports going on. Elections are coming up. School is about over and graduations start soon.
Fun time but busy too.

Yesterday the NU football team had their Red-White game?? and I watched it on BTN last night. Very interesting.

This was one practice in 26. Sounds like Tommy Armstrong is the quarterback to beat. He was not impressive yesterday against the No. 1 defense. Ryker Fyfe and Johnny Stanton looked better but they were playing against less competition.

I give the edge to Johnny Stanton as our backup quarterback. He played real well and he can run. Many think Fyfe was the best quarterback on Saturday and that includes Armstrong.

Imani Cross was the Player of the Game. He ran six times for a 100 yards and two TDs. He was impressive as he ran over defenders. Abdullah didnt play but all the running backs looked good.

Brandon Reilly had the best results at receiver. He is much improved and will see the field this fall.

The linebackers played well. I was impressed with Rose and Courtney Love stuck out on a couple of plays.

The defensive line held up well against the offensive line. It is so hard to judge which one is stronger. Couldn't tell watching the game on tv who excelled on the offensive line.

On the defensive line I thought Greg McMullen had some nice plays.

Byerson Cockrell looks to be a starter at corner this fall. Lots of praises from the coaches and he had some nice plays on Saturday. That's huge for the defense.

Nebraska has nine recruits with verbal commitments so far for the 2015 Saturday they had some key visitors.

Jaelan Austin is a wide receiver from Grand Prairie Texas. He's a three star. He has 16 offers and five from Big 10 schools. His favorite school right now is Texas Tech.

Bryan Brokop is a 6'5" offensive lineman from New Lenox, Illinois. He is a 2016 recruit. He only has two offers at this time but Nebraska likes him and he likes Nebraska.

Jameel Cook is a defensive back from Missouri City Texas. He is 6'1" and 190 lbs. He is a teammate of Cameron Townsend who Nebraska is after also. He has three offers.

C.J. Johnson is a three star wide receiver from Bellevue West. He has length being 6'1". He has four offers. His father is former Husker Clester Johnson. He is known for having great hands.

Jackson Perry is an offensive lineman from Las vegas Nevada. He is a three star. His family came with him to Lincoln and it sounds like he is close to making his decision. He only has one offer but they expect more to come.

Spencer Tears is a wide receiver from Oak Lawn Illinois. Love these names. Nebraska is hitting Illinois hard for recruiting this year. Tears is a three star and he is 6'3". He has six offers. He says Nebraska is at the top of his list.

Cameron Townsend is a linebacker from Missouri City Texas. Rivals says he may be the most talented kid visiting this week. He has 13 offers. He is ranked in the Rivals250 list.

Aaron Williams is a defensive back from Atlanta Georgia. New Husker assistant Sharlton Warren is recruiting him. He is a three star. He has nine offers and has visited some of the top schools in the country.

The Masters ends today. I love to watch this tournament. The coverage is great. Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson are tied at -5. I used to like Bubba Watson but after he went off on his caddy last year in a tournament and acted like a jerk, I wish for somebody else to win this one. I picked Matt Kuchar to win so I will be hoping he does so. He is only one back going into the final day.

There are only 14 players under par after three days. It will be interesting to see how tough the course will be today.

Jordan Spieth will be fun to watch also. Tied for the lead, he is only 20 years old and many say he is the next Tiger Woods. Because everybody is older than him he addresses his fellow players with Mister and respects them all. Spieth just earned his PGA card last year. He qualified for the Masters by winning the John Deere Classic in 2013. He became the first teenager to win a tournament in 82 years. Spieth would be the first rookie to win the Masters since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.

The defending Masters champ Adam Scott shot a 76 on Saturday. He had 35 putts. He might put his long putter away but probably not today.Oh and Fred Couples is on the leaderboard only four strokes back.

Interestingly Gary Woodland matched the lowest score ever at the Masters on the front nine with a 30. Then he birdied the 10th. He struggled at Amen Corner and ended up with a 69.

Jeff Knox owns the Augusta National record for members with a 61 played with Rory McIlroy yesterday.

TV ratings were down for the Masters so far. Tiger Woods makes a difference. ESPN said that its live telecast of the second round was down 40% in viewership from a year ago.

Kevin Harvick won at Darlington on Saturday night. I didn't even realize the race was Saturday night until it was half over. Jr. should have got four tires on the last pit stop.

Boxer Manny Pacquiao beat Timothy Bradley by unanimous decision after Bradley beat him two years ago.

Chad Johnson AKA Ochocinco may be headed to Canada to play football.

Eric Musselman is a former NBA coach who has interviewed with California.

Remember Kevin Ware who had that ugly leg break on Tv last year when he played for Louisville? He is headed to Georgia State to play.

The NSAA ruled that Holdrege will remain Class B in all sports but football for 2014-15.

They also ruled that for Class A and B basketball and volleyball there would be no game for 3rd place. The other proposal for the other four classes failed as the vote was 4-4.

The 2014 volleyball tournament will be held in Lincoln. Most of the games will be at Devaney and Pinnacle but four high schools will be used for the early games.

Friday night the Cubs knocked off the Cardinals 6-3 for their first extra game victory this year. Starter Jeff Samardzija is having an excellent year so far.

Nebraska is listed as No. 9 in the Top 25 college football tailgating schools. Tennessee is listed No. 1.
