Tai Webster is coming to Nebraska via New Zealand. ESPN college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla about Webster, " I'd be shocked if there were 25 17-year-old players in the States better than this kid." Webster is believed to be the youngest player to ever make the New Zealand national team.
LSU, Virginia, Pittsburgh, North Carolina St., Wake Forest, and St. Mary's were all ready to make a move on Webster. Webster will play guard for Nebraska.

Husker women BB!
The Husker women basketball team returns four starters this year. Their schedule has been finalized and they play Pittsburg State in an exhibition game. The game will be October 30th at 7:05. The Huskers return after a 24-9 season last year. Returning starters are Jordan Hooper, Lindsey Moore, Emily Cady, and Hailie Sample.
Former Wisconsin quarterback and now rookie in the NFL Russell Wilson is a starter when Seattle plays Kansas City Friday night.
The Wisconsin starter this year at quarterback will be Danny O'Brien.
The Nebraska volleball team starts off with a bang this weekend. They play St. Louis Friday night and then last year's champ UCLA on Saturday. Great volleyball. We will get an idea right away how good NU is even though we will be on our home court. Sunday the game is against Notre Dame and its at the CenturyLink in Omaha.

Barrett Ruud is headed to New Orleans!
Barrett Ruud is headed to New Orleans to help them with their defensive problems. He was traded from Seattle for a draft pick.
Last week, the former NU players in the NFL were led by tight ends. Mike McNiel had three catches for 41 yards. Niles Paul had four catches for 25 yards and a touchdown.
Bradnon Jackson had 14 carries for 35 yards and two receptons for eight yards. Eric Hagg had one unassisted and one assisted tackle. Gomes had one unassisted tackle for Washington. Larry Asante again had a great week with three unassisted tackles. Lavonte David had two unassited tackles. Jared Crick had two unassisted tackles and one assisted tackle. Demorrio Williams had two unassisted and two assisted. Finally I will end with Scott Shanle having one unassisted tackle and two assisted tackles.

Update in Sports
Allie Havers is a new commit to the Nebraska women's basketball team. She is 6'5" and was originally commited to Michigan. Shimmy Gray-Miller, a new assistant coach for the women's NU BB team, helped land the Michigan product. All parties feel she will be a good fit at NU.
Tommy Armstrong is pushing Brion Carnes for the backup quarterback job. Great to have competition at each position. That is a lot to say about Armstrong as he has only been with the team for a week.
Freshman linebacker Jared Afalava has been academically cleared to play. I am going to guess he is a redshirt candidate at this point.
Tyler Moore has not been released from his scholarship yet. Junior offensive lineman Brandon Chapek has been added to the 105 man roster. Former Husker offensive lineman Ryan Klacho has transferred to Illinois.
Barney Cotton has received a little heat in the past couple of weeks. Let's don't forget that John Garrison and Brendan Stai also help coach the offensive line. He has some pretty good help.
Nebraska injuries include wide receiver Taariq Allen, freshman tight end David Sutton, OL Jake Cotton, and Thad Randle. None of them appear serious. However linebacker Corey Whitaker is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Pelini has given high praises to freshmen defensive linemen Vincent Valentine and Aaron Curry. Both have a possibilty to play this year.
King Frazier, a walk-on from Kansas City is said to have looked impressive in Saturday's scrimmage.
Cole Pensick and Justin Jackson are battling for the center position. Jackson just received a scholarship this past week.
I still predict that fullback Andy Janovich will be a great one. CJ Zimmerer is also having a good fall camp. Janovich is a true freshman walk-on out of Gretna.
We have none scholarship safeties and cornerbacks that will be going off the team in the next two years. We have only gave out four scholarships to these positions the past two years. This is why the 2013 class will be loaded with defensive backs.
Also there are nine offensive linemen in the junior and senior classes. Nebraska has only signed five the past two years. One is Corey Whitaker who just blew out his ACL.
The Nebraska volleyball team looks real strong this year. Lots of depth!! Look to NU to have a great season.
The Lincoln Journal Star High School rankings are out. In Class A, they have Lincoln Southeast, Class B, McCook, Class C-1, Norfolk Catholic, C-2, Aquinas, D-1, Howells, and D-2, Giltner. Loomis is pre-ranked No. 6 in D-2.

Nebraskans in the NFL
Ok so the NFL season has begun and Nebraska is again well represented. The opening weekend did not prove to be a lot of great stats for the former Huskers.
Here's what we found for the first preseason weekend.

Gomes-Three unassisted tackles and one assisted tackle
Niles Paul-one reception for eleven yards
Buffalo
Kelsay-two assisted tackles
New England

Philadelphia
Henery-one for one in field goals 51 yards and three for three in extra points

Demorrio Williams-two unassisted tackles
Arthur Hobbs(UNK) one unassisted tackle
NY Jets
Josh Brown-one for one in field goals 41 yards
Cleveland
Brandon Jackson- sic rushes for 18 yards and one reception for 11 yards
Eric Hagg-two unassisted tackles
Detroit

Prince Amukamara-two unassisted tackles
Jacksonville
Zach Potter-one reception for four yards
Tampa Bay
Larry Asante-five unassisted tackles and one assisted tackle
Lavonte David-one unassisted tackle

Looks like Tyler Moore is gone at Nebraska. He says he like Pelini and Beck. So who doesn't he like. You figure it out.

Tyler Moore, where are you?
Tyler Moore may be gone or maybe not. I hope he decides to stay. His playing time will come. He will play in the NFL. He is a huge talent and there is no place like Nebraska for an offensive lineman. But that is two four-star offensive linemen in one week to possibly leave. Ryan Klacho is already leaving for sure. Is there something wrong in the offensive line camp?
The NU basketball team has a great chance to get New Zealand's top prospect for 2013. He is a point guard by the name of Tai Webster. NU assistant Chris Harriman won over Webster's family during recruitment. This kid sounds good.

Random Sports!
What happened to Tyler Moore, the freshman to start at left tackle the first four games last year. Has he left the team?
Jonathon Cook is the 14th commitment for the NU football team. He is a corner from Alabama and has not visited Nebraska yet.
Jordan Burroughs was magnificent in the Olympics. The University of Nebraska won the GOLD and represented the United States and Nebraska very well.
Also it was a lot of fun to watch Jordan Larsen play for the American volleyball team. She played real well. The United State got the silver which was a little bit of a disappointment but Larsen was fun to watch.
Howard to the Lakers. They may have four of the best seven players in the NBA.
The NU football team has a lot of depth this year. I think the only position I think would that having an injury would be devasting is quarterback. Rex Burkhead is our MVP but we do have backups. At quarterback the unknown is unsettling. Hopefully we can see a couple of reserves (quarterbacks) play in the first couple of games and hopefully they will play with confidence.
James Dobson, our strength and conditioning coach, is the best in the nation and he should get a lot of credit when Nebraska has success.
I look to see Baptiste start at corner this year. I think he will beat out Seisay and Antonio Bell.
Look to RB Imani Cross to make a difference this fall. Look to Tommy Armstrong to become No. 2 quarterback very soon. I think Charles Jackson will make a great nickel and dime back this year.
Do you remember the old days when an offensive lineman played either center, guard, or tackle. Now it seems like they shuffle them around like playing cards.
Brett Maher, from Kearney, Nebraska, is listed as an All-American at punter and kicker. Nebraska just keeps on producing the best at this position.
Watch for Ameer Abdullah to be be the premier returner in college football.
Special teams look awesome for Nebraska this year.
Maurice Purify caught a record seven TD passes for the Arizona Rattlers in Arena Football. In 2011, Purify was the rookie of the year for Arena Football. The NFL should give him another chance.

Nebraska Men's BB gets two commits!
Nathan Hawkins became the second NU pickup of the day for Tim Miles and NU basketball for the 2013 class. Hawkins is from Rowlett, Texas and is a 6'5" guard. Now that he is a Husker he is going to do everything he can to get Akoy Agau.
Also Nebraska got Nick Fuller from Wisconsin to commit. Fuller is a 6'7" guard who was looking at Nebraska and Minnesota. So Nebraska has two early commits.
On the football side NU has received word that Jonathon Rose will transfer because he Auburn. Many think he will be on the field in 2013.

Olympics showcases the world's athletic talent!
The Olympics allows us to see the best athletes in the world in action. Wow what a show!! The athletes are amazing. Gymnastics, table tennis, badmitton, diving, swimming, track and field, and on and on watching the Olympics demonstrates how much practice it takes to succeed and how much talent is in the world.
I have to admit there are some really weird events as the guy tonight who was swinging a sword and doing some kind of twirling. Tampoline? Synchronized swimming and diving??? Some of these are entertaining and some are just kind of strange. I am into the Olympics this year maybe more than any other year EVER! Fun to watch.
LaVonte David is a starter for the Tampa Bay Bucs. Right now he is No. 1 on the depth chart at linebacker. Geno Hayes was not resigned by the team, opening the door for David, who had a great collegiate career at Nebraska.
Penn State 2013 Four-Star recruit Dorian Johnson decommits from Nittany Lions. He is rated Top 25 at offensive tackle.
The Kansas City Chiefs have released their depth chart. Matt Cassel is No. 1 at quarterback. Brad Quinn No. 2. Running back has Jamal Charles No. 1 and Peyton Hillis is No. 1. Brandon Kinnie is still in the hunt at wide receiver. He will need to be in the Top six when they are done. He is on the bubble right now.
Former Auburn defensive back Jonathan Rose will decide where he is transferring to possibly by the end of the week and Nebraska is high on his list. Rose played nine games as a true freshman for Auburn.
Cornerback Cedric Collins will decide before school where he will play his college football at. His final three picks are Baylor, Nebraska, and Texas A & M.
Nebraska's graduate assistants are Vince Marrow, Joe Ganz, Jake Mandelko, and T. J. Hollowell.
Nebraska volleyball plays no games at Bob Devaney this year BUT they do play the Fighting Irish at the CenturyLink Event Center in Omaha on August 26th at 1:30.
Gretna returns six offensive players and five defensive players in 2012. Gretna was 11-1 last year. Gretna returns Tate Paulsen at running back. Nick Stoltenberg and Trevor Leiting are fighting for the quarterback job. Zach Stover is a stellar linebacker who had 58 solo tackles last year. Look to Gretna to be 6-4 this season.

Ankrah is figuring out defensive scheme!
Jason Ankrah said he came to Nebraska and really didn't listen well to the coaches and did like he always did in high school. It didn't work and he did not get much playing time until late last season. Look to him to play a bigger role this fall. Last year Ankrah had 8.5 of the 21 sacks. Coach Kaz will be more aggressive this year and this will help Ankrah.
Nebraska is pursuing Jonaathon Rose who was who was dismissed from the Auburn football team. He is a four star safety and Nebraska is investigating why he was dismissed and his background. Tennessee and Florida St. are also after him.
Former Husker and defensive end Josh Williams is looking for new life at Kansas University. He was dismissed from the Nebraska football team this spring.
High School sports have started. Football started Monday and Beatrice and Wahoo started at midnight Monday morning. Monday was also the start of softball, girl's golf, and boys tennis. Next Monday volleyball and cross country start.
Lincoln moves to Class A in football this year and will play North Star, Southeast, and Southwest. That will be fun to watch and we will see how they will compete.

50 years ago today!
I can still remember the newspaper and I was only right years old but the news of Marilyn Monroe dying was huge. She was a mysterious, beautiful, and blonde actress that seemed like your everyday girl. 50 years ago!! Wow time has flown.
Even today how Marilyn Monroe died is not clear. The government mysteriously will not release her files because they are too sensitive. Did the government have her killed? Unless the files are found and released, we won't know.
NEBRASKA BASKETBALL (MEN)
6'7" three star wing player Nick Fuller has Nebraska down to Minnesota and Nebraska. Fuller's offers include St. Louis, Butler, and Colorado. Fuller can play several positions. Fuller is from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Fuller has set an official visit with Nebraska.
New Jersey point guard Josh Brown will join Fuller at the end of August and the first NU football game for their official visit in Lincoln. Brown had committed to Temple but wants to look around at other schools now. The week after Nebraska, he is making a visit at USC. Brown is 6'3" and 180 lbs.
NEBRASKA FOOTBALL
Ryan Kacho, a four star offensive lineman has decided to transfer. He was part of the 2011 class. Redshirt freshman Todd Peat, Jr.,also a four star recruit, did not make the 105 man roster. This is the total roster until school starts. Guard Nick Ash is also not part of the 105.
2012 recruits Hared Afalava and Alonzo Moore are still waiting to hear if they will qualify academically.
Seven true freshman walk-ons made the 105 man roster. Gretna fullback Andy Janovich, Lincoln SW receiver Brandon Reilly, Omaha Burke receiver Jordan Nelson, receiver Sam Fultz from Grand Island, tight end Trey Foster from Lincoln Southeast, and running backs King Frazier and Graham Nabity from Elkhorn.
Braylon Heard is practicing mostly at running back.
Austin Cassidy has joined the team as a graduate assistant.
Third year quarterback Taylor Martinez only needs 161 yards rushing and 280 yards passing to become the 25th player in NCAA history to have 2000 yards rushing and passing. Taylor Martinez starts the season in sixth place in Nebraska's career passing chart. Martinez only needs 1406 yards to move into sixth place. Zac Taylor is No. 1 in passing with 5,850 yards.

Latest in sports!
Nebraska's recruits for the 2013 recruiting class are Nate Hawkins, a 6'5" shooting guard from Rowlett, Texas, Jeffrey Carroll, a 6'5" forward from Rowlett, Texas, Isaiah Taylor, a 6'2" ppoint guard from Houston, Texas, Josh Brown, a 6'2" shooting guard from Newark, NJ, and Akoy Agau from Omaha Central.
Also NU is close to offering 6'2" Michael Williams of San Antonio, Texas. Williams has been under the radar due to a stress fracture in his back. He lists Nebraska in his top 4 schools.
Pelini is very happy with his new coaches especially Terry Joseph. Pelini says he will be a defensive coordinator soon. Joseph will be a great improvement this year and we will see Bo concentrate more on the defensice schemes which he is really good at. Also Coach Kaczenski impresses Bo in the defensive line.
I have had bosses like bo Pelini and I am somewhat like him in my management style. (Hopefully I don't lose my temper like he does!) Bo's management style is quick to be critical and to coach in a way to make those under him better. This style doesn't praise much. Good things are just expected so when Bo has the praise level this high, he is very very happy and this means good things are about to happen. Look to Nebraska to end up with at least ten victories this year. Do you feel it?
Bret Mahrer will get a scholarship this fall. Spencer Long should also get one. Look to Jake Long, Justin Johnson, and Heung Choi to be in the mix also.
The Nebraska linebackers are rated 8th in the Big 10 by ATHLON SPORTS. Lavonte David is gone. The replacement is unknown. Nebraska will fill the position adequately but we won't have the dominance we had last year with David.
Our cornerback position looks pretty strong. I like Stanley Jean-Baptiste a lot. He should have a good chance of beating out Andrew Green. Mohammed Seisay will be a starter early in the season. NU has depth. Their cornerbacks are better!! They are deeper.
I like the fact that Nebraska is not aggressively seeking Penn St. players! Maybe we will get one of them but they will probably need to come to us first.
Now Nebraska baseball scheduling. In the works are road games with UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, and Texas. We are also looking at a home game with Arkansas. It would be David Horne's return. Nebraska has to improve its RPI by winning and beating better teams. They have to to have a chance to get to the College World Series.

Commit moving to Nebraska and will play for Lincoln SW
2013 commit Christian Lacouture is moving to Lincoln and will play for Lincoln Southwest this fall. Lacouture is a four star defensive end and will join Josh Banderas another NU recruit on the SW team. Lacouture came from a high school in College Station, Texas. Lacouture is rated as NU's No. 2 recruit so far and he will definately put Southwest into the hunt for No. 1.
Former Penn St. starting quarterback Rob Bolden is headed to LSU. Silas Redd, Penn St.'s starting running back, is headed probably to USC.
John Hurley will play in the Cox Classic thsi weekend. Brandon Crick did not qualify. Either did Chris Wemmers, Ryan Vermeer, Brady Schnell, or Mark Pillen.
Wil Myers of the Omaha Storm Chasers hit two more home runs Monday night and now has 21. I'd send him to Kansas City. He is a star. Kansas City has lost eight out of ten games.
Watch the American women's volleyball team and Jordan Larson. It is FUN!!

Cubs pass the Royals in winning percentage!
It took almost until August 1st but the Cubs have past the Royals in winning percentage. I would have never dreamed it in 2012. The Royals have lost like 21 of 27 and are reeling downward with no starting pitching. No pitching!! The Cubs are riding Castro and Rizzo's bats and once in a while get some pretty good pitching. Dempster has been unbelievable with is ERA under 3.00.
Kansas City needs to have a good August and September and so do the Storm Chasers in Omaha who have been struggling also.
The NFL camps are open and the first exhibition game starts in about a week. Many Huskers are in camp and will be trying to make the final cut when the season begins in September. Russ Hochstein and Stewart Bradley are in Arizona, Sam Koch and Terrance Moore in Baltimore, Chris Kelsay and Keith Williams in Buffalo, Rick Henry in Chicago, Eric Hagg and Brandon Jackson in Cleveland, Dominic Raiola, Ndamukong Suh, and Kyle Vanden Bosch in Detroit, Curenski Gilleylen in Green Bay, Jared Crick in Houston, Zach Potter in Jacksonville, Brandon Kinnie in Kansas city, Richie Igcognito and Lydon Murtha in Miami, Zach Bowman in Minnesota, Alfonzo Dennard and Danny Woodhead (Chadron St.) in New England, Marcel Jones and Scott Shanke in New Orleans, Prince Amukamara in New York (giants), Josh Brown, and Matt Slauson in New York (Jets), Alex Henery and D.J. Jones in Philadelphia, Demorrio Williams in San Diego, Mike McNiel in St. Louis, Larry Asante, Lavonte David, Jermarcus Hardick, and Carl Nicks in tampa Bay, and Adam Carriker, DeJon Gomes, roy Helu Jr., and Niles Paul (TE) in Washington.
It is also reported that Mike Caputo will try to make it at Minnesota and Austin Cassidy is at Seattle.
UNK has Stephan Goodwin in New York (Giants), Mason Brodine in Oakland, and Arthur Hobbs in San Diego.
6'7" 195 lb three-star prospect Nick Fuller from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin is looking pretty hard at playing basketball at Nebraska. He likes Coach Miles and his staff and he plans to visit officially with Nebraska and Minnesota for sure. This looks like a prospect that we have a pretty good chance of getting. He will be in Lincoln September 1st for the first football game.
Akoy Agau from Omaha Central puts the Georgetown Hoyas at the top of his list right now. Nebraska is still on his list but he likes the Hoyas offensive scheme and he likes the coaches.

Dirk gets a little crazy again!
I loved the article by Dirk Chatelain about Bob Devaney and the story of how he got to Nebraska. Excellent, educational, and entertaining! Great info to discuss with the Nebraska fan.
Now today in the Sunday paper he says the NCAA dropped the ball! He says they should have sent Penn State off the field for a year (2013). OK so who gets hurt. The teams that are scheduled to play them in 2013. Do they just drop a game or do they schedule Maine State? The student-athlete gets hurt. Of course it does hurt the University also.
But a $30 fine with no bowl games for four years and cutting to 65 the number of scholarships they have will do damage to the University for the next seven to eight years. It allows the student athlete to continue to play there if they wish and it doesn't disrupt scheduling for all the other schools involved.
He says it allows them to adapt a "Us Against The World' attitude. What's wrong with that. They (players) didn't commit the horrific crimes. Having a attitude that they will improve is a show of character.
I admire the Penn St. coach Bill O'Brien and his approach to the circumstances. He is a great coach to have at Penn St. during this time.
Ex-Husker Nancy Metcalf helped the US defeat Brazil in five sets a week ago. None of the players in this game will play in the Olympics but the Huskers are being represented well in the world of volleyball.
Because yesterday in the Olympics Jordan Larson was a "KEY" to the US winning the game against the South Koreans. She played well, made us proud, and the tv camera man constantly had the picture on her. What fun!!!
The women's basketball team will face four NCAA Tournament teams in its 2012-13 nonconference schedule including with 2012 Elite Eight team Maryland in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Connie Yori's contract has been extended to 2017!! The Huskers have been to the NCAA tournament in four of the past six years.
The NU football team is looking to add one or two more commitments at wide receiver in the 2013 class. One of their top targets is Brian Lemelle out of Harrisburg, Penn. He plans to make an official visit to Lincoln. He has already visited Cinncinnati, Virginia, and West Virginia and has them about even. He is 5'11" and 175 lbs. Last year he had 93 catches for 1,630 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Big Ten Media Days, Volleyball, NU football,
Bo Pelini, Rex Burkhead, Kyler reed, and Will Compton were all in Chicago. Nebraska went 10th in speaking to the media.
Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema says Wisconsin will not actively recruit players from Penn State. Quarterback Danny O'Brien is progressing well.
Danny Hope, the Purdue coach, says this is the first time he has a good team coming back. Purdue says they will pursue Penn State players as per the rules of the NCAA. Caleb TerBush enters the fall camp as the number one quarterback.
Urban Meyer says the SEC is kind of the kingpin. Eight of the twelve league teams are running the spread offense in the Big 10. Meyer doesn't believe schools should seek out Penn St. players but Penn St. players should feel free to contact other schools. He said the Big 10 has to win some big bowl games to move up in the national spotlight.
Tim Beckman, the Illinois coach, says they did not go onto the Penn St. campus to recruit (reported today they had six coaches off-campus today) but they are interested in talking to players that are interested. He has major concerns with their offensive line. Nathan Scheelhaase is starter at quarterback right now. He wants to make Northwestern a "rival."
Kevin Wilson, Indiana coach, says their offense last year was as poor as any team he has been around since 1999." He said for as bad as they are all positions are still open. He said Indiana will be more competitive this year.
Penn St.coach Bill O'Brien says he has no update on running back Silas Redd. Matt McGloin is the starting quarterback right now. He says, "We have a bunch of players who stick together."
Pat Fitzgerald, the Northwestern coach, He thinks they can be in the Big 10 championship. Kain Colter looks to be the starting quarterback.
Jerry Kill, the Minnesota coach say they have made great strides the past year. MarQueis Gray looks very good at quarterback.
Nerbaska goes after Michigan but before that rivals.com talks to Rex Burkhead and he has taken Imani Cross under his wing and feels he will contribute this fall.
Will Compton has done his best work with junior college transfer Zaire Anderson.
Brady Hoke, the Michigan coach, was actually disappointed in their season last year because they didn't win the Big 10. They have the Big 10's top player in Denard Robinson.
Rex Burkhead is a "model student athlete" throughout the country. Will Compton is the leader on defense.
Mark Dantonio, the Michigan St. coach, insinuated that Penn St players or their high school coaches have approached them.
Kirk Ferentz, the Iowa coach, was disappointed in his staff turnover this past year.

NU Volleyball starts in less than 27 days!
The annual Red/White NU volleyball game starts at 7:00 on August 18, 2012 at the Coliseum. Nebraska will have lauren Cook, Gina Mancuso, Morgan Broekhuis, Hayley Thramer, and Hannah Werth to anchor their team.
Nebraska plays in two three team round robin tournaments early at the Coliseum. They play St. Louis on August 24th at 7 and UCLA on Saturday, the 25th at 7. Then on Sunday they play in Omaha at the CenturyLink Center at 1:30 against Notre Dame. UCLA was very strong in the NCAA tournament last year and St. Louis will be a highly rated team this season. In addition to NU's games UCLA plays Notre Dame on friday afternoon at 4:30 and then on the 25th Notre Dame plays St. Louis at 3:30.
Then on Thursday, September 6th, NU plays Oklahoma at 7, on the 7th they play Duquesne at 6, and then on Saturday they play Kentucky at 1:30. There is also games between the other teams those three days. All of these games are at the Coliseum also.
Penn St. looks like the top team in the nation to start with. One poll has NU rated 3rd. Stanford, Texas, Washington, Illinois, Minnesota, St. Louis, California, and Hawaii all look very good this year.
The women's basketball team returns the nucleus of their team in 2012-2013. Back are Emily Cady, Jordan Hooper, and Lindsey Moore. NU should be good again this year. They have three freshment coming in with two from Nebraska. Courtney Aiken is a 5'9" guard from Centura, Sadie Murren is a 5'*' guard from Wahoo, and Rachel Theriot is a 6 foot guard from Middleburg, Ohio. It will be interesting to see who steps up and starts the other two positions.
Four-star commit Ross Douglas is commited to Penn State but visited NU on Friday. He is rated No. 15th as the overall player in Ohio. Will there be others from Penn State visit after their penalties handed to them today by the NCAA.
I like Class B football a lot probalby because that is the class that Holdrege plays. Many think that the district with Gretna, Elkhorn, and Elkhorn South will be the toughest district. However I have to go with the B-5 district which has Crete. Crete has had five state finalists and four state champions since 2000. They are led by Colton Steer (cool name) who is a 215 pound running back.
Beatrice is also in the district and has a bunch of good seniors on the team. Zach Decker is moving to QB from the wide receiver position. They have a stable of running backs including Chance Baumann and Jessup Workman.
Seward is much improved. They return eight players on defense. Watch for Trey Barnes at linebacker.
Even a better Norris team will have an upset or two this year. So you could see an Elkhorn-Crete matchup in the east finals and they might play at team like McCook in the finals. Or if it works out again Crete may represent the West and then play Elkhorn in the finals. There will be some great games in Class B this year.

Braylon Heard moves position!
Braylon Heard is moving back to running back. That may be a good sign that they feel good that we have some good talent at cornerback. With Aaron Green gone to TCU this should be a boost at running back.

Latest in Sports!
Thomas Brown, a 2012 Husker football signee, is yet to qualify academically. He is the last recruit yet to report for football. Brown is a linebacker and did not pass his ACT test score. He is taking summer school classes to get qualified.
Nebraska secured junior college pitcher Josh Roder to fill a void as a relief pitcher for the Husker baseball team. With Travis Huber leaving the Huskers, this is a big pickup. Roeder had a 2.06 ERA for Louisburg College of North Carolina last year.
Husker baseball also had a huge pickup when they got Jakson Reetz as a 2014 commit. Reetz is ranked No. 21 nationally and No. 1 in Nebraska. Let's hope he doesn't go to the majors first. Reetz was pursued by Stanford, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt. Reetz could pitch, play catcher, ot play the outfield. His coach at Norris High School says he has high character and should fit nicely with Darin Erstad's style of play.
NU basketball has offered point guard Ikenna Iroegbu for the 2013 class. NU has also offered R.J. Curington from the same school. Oak Hill (Va.) High School went 44-0 last year. Iroegbu is 6' 2" and has present offers from Missouri, Oklahoma St., USC, Washington St., and Colorado.
Lately Creighton has taken three players in their 2013 class that NU had offered. It will be interesting to see who we can sign when it is all done.
NU has also offered a forward from Ohio. He is Vitto Brown and he is 6'8" and 225 lbs. Brown's offers include K-State, Wisconsin, Iowa State, and Minnesota. He wants to play in the Big 10 or Big 12. He averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds as a junior last year for his Bowling Green team.
John Bishop joins KOZN and "Unsportmanlike Conduct" and will co-host with Mile'L Severe. He takes over for Matt Schick who is going to ESPNU. Schick had the job like for two weeks when Kevin Kugler left. Bishop is very candid and it should be a great show.
Also Gary Sharp is coming back to Nebraska to serve as KOZN's sports director and will join Jason Peter for the morning show. Should be interesting. Sharp is also one to speak his mind.
D.J. Foster is a 6'3" 295 lb. offensive lineman from Lincoln Southeast. He will be in the 2014 class. He was just named Rivals Underclassman Challenge offensive player MVP. His brother Trey is a walkon at NU. This would be a great catch if NU can snag him.
Former Temple commit Josh Brown has decommited and NU is after him. He is a point guard out of Newark, N. J. He presently ranks 142 on the Rivals Top 150 list. He would be a 2013 recruit. Brown has offers from a number of top schools in the nation including Indiana and Illinois.
Rivals Mike Farrell has this to say about Johnny Stanton at the Elite 11 quarterback camp, NU's 2013
recruit at quarterback. "Stanton is a big, physical kid with a strong enough arm and he can deliver it in the intermediate passing game. His footwork is iffy and his long throw is erratic, but he also made some really nice throws. He is one of the more intriguing prospects out there."
Nick Fuller is 6'7" and can shoot the ball. He plays for a Wisconsin AAU team. Minnesota's Tubby Smith is after Fuller but so is Nebraska. Looks like Fuller will visit both Minnesota and Nebraska in Minnesota.

What's new!
California star quarterback Johnny Stanton committed to Nebraska. His top other offers included Oregon, Wisconsin, and Stanford. Last year he threw for 2,439 yards and 13 touchdowns and ran for 1,528 yards and 25 touchdowns. Stanton was among 25 quarterbacks selected to the Elite 11 camp. Stanton is 6'2" and 220 lbs!!
Taylor Matinez has been working with Los Angeles-area quarterback coach Steve Calhoun. Calhoun says Martinez's passing percentage will go up. "Because there'll be more balance at the top of the throw. He's going to be balanced. When you have balance , it translates into accuracy".
Kevin Kugler is leaving KOZN 1620 am in Omaha to be a play-by-play announcer for the Big Ten Network. Great promotion for Kugler but will miss him in the weekday afternoons, especially during football season. Kugler will continue to do the "Big Red Wrap-up" during the football season. He also will do NFL games, the College World Series, NCAA basketball, and men's basketball at the Summer Olympics.
Matt Schick, who years ago was at NTV, will replace Kugler on The Zone (KOZN).
NU basketball has interest in guard Joseph Chealey from Florida. He will be a 2013 prospect. Recently Chealey has received interest from colleges all over the nation. He prides himself in playing great defense.
The NU basketball team is also interested in two rising point guards from Texas. They are 2014 Crosby, Texas Brandon Etienne and 2015 Garland, Texas combo guard Peter Shortino.
Nebraska Class B football should be interesting this fall. Crete is rebuilding but looks like the best of the bunch. McCook could make it from the west. Elkhorn South may be a factor before it is over. Defending champion Elkhorn has one starter back.
In C-1 Norfolk Catholic, who has won 38 out of the last 39 games, has won the state title the past two years. They return QB Jordan Bellar. Other challengers will be Pierce, Wahoo, and Adams Central.
C-2 looks like Aquinas will repeat as champions.
D-1 looks to Elgin/Pope John as the favorite. Howells moves up to D-1 this year along with Bloomfield. Add Sargent D-2's champion last year and this should be a fight to the end.
Gilter is favored in D-2.
Blue Ribbon Yearbook predicts NU to finish third in the Big Ten Legends division behind Michigan and Michigan St. They pick Oklahoma to beat out West Virginia in the Big 12.
All Big-10 is Rex Burkhead at running back and Brett Maher at punter and kicker. Mohammed Seisay is predicted to be the newcomer of the year.
It sad how it has developed that Penn St. did cover up the Jerry Sandusky crimes.
Congrats to John Hurley for qualifying for the PGA event at the John Deere Classic. It will be fun to follow him.

It sad how it has developed that Penn St. did cover up the Jerry Sandusky crimes.

Ray Gallegos will be back playing with NU this year after redshirting his junior year. He will either play shooting guard or point guard. Gallegos is stronger and quicker and is glad he redshirted. He is 6'2" and 176 lbs. Coach Miles says,"I think he scores the ball. He's a good athlete, and he seems to defensive rebound pretty well, too, for a guard. At the end of the day, he's a guard that, in practices, has scored better than just about anybody else."
The Nebraska basketball team has been working hard on their offense spending entire workouts shooting, screening, and doing offfensive drills.
Baker Steinkuhler is getting ready for his senior year with the Nebraska football team. He is huge at 6'6" and 290 lbs. With Suh and Crick both now gone, Baker is the man in the middle of the defense.

Jordan Larson is headed to her first Olympic Games as a member of the United States women’s volleyball team. The three-time All-American at Nebraska from the small town of Hooper was named to the 12-team roster on Tuesday evening.
Larson joins former Huskers Lori Endicott (1992 and ’96), Allison Weston (2000) and Nancy Metcalf (’04) in making the Olympic team. Metcalf tried out for this year's team but did not make the final cut. He is listed as a replacement player.
Sports Update!
Defensive Coordinator John Papuchis and defensive end Jason Ankrah both graduated from North Potomac, Marland Quince Orchard High School. This week Nebraska picked up a commit from Marcus Newby who plays at the same school. He is a 6' 1" linebacker and he is rated a four star by rivals.com. Newby has had a lot of offers but it got down to Penn St. and Nebraska. This gives Nebraska three commits at linebacker for 2013.
NU basketball is after 6'5" R.J. Curlington out of Virginia. He plans to visit NU in the fall. He is a shooting guard and his stock is rising. He has offers from Maryland, Stanford, Florida St and many others. He is noted for his team play, shooting ability and strong defense.

The latest in Sports and some cathin up!
Our guest writer wrote in the comment section last week the following about Tiger Woods, "I think Tiger will surpass Jack Nicklaus in major victories, unfortunately. He is starting to come around as of late, and I think it's only a matter of time before he wins a major. Possibly the British or the PGA Championship. If not, 2012 will bring him at least one. I used to watch all 4 rounds of every tournament he played growing up, rooting as hard as humanly possible for him. With the unfortunate scandal he created and went through, I find myself rooting for guys with more normal names, like Bubba.
Well Tiger did win and you can bet that he will win more majors. He played like the Tiger of "Old" today.
Nebraska will play some Heisman Trophy candidates this fall. Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson comes to Lincoln in October. He is rated No. 2 as a potential winner of the award.
Wisconsin running back Montee Ball is rated No. 4. Ball killed Nebraska last year. Wisconsin plays in Lincoln also this year.
Rated No. 8 is our own Rex Burkhead. A lot of the nation's fans don't know rex but Nebraska fans do.
Ohio State's quarterback Braxton Miller is rated No. 13. He gave NU a very tough time last year.
Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin, believe it or not, is rated No. 21. He was the 2011 Sun Belt Player of the Year. Arkansas State may be one of our most competitive games in 2012.
NU quarterback taylor Martinez is listed in the group of "the best of the rest".
Mark Watton is the new Waverly boys basketball coach. He was the Lincoln Journal's Co-coach of the year in 1998 when Wahoo won C-1. Watton will continue to teach in Wahoo but will head to Waverly each day during the basketball season. Watton was the assistant coach when Wahoo had their 114 game winning streak.
Nebraska is trying to get David Williams to visit Lincoln. He is a running back out of Philadelphia. He ran for 2000 yards and had 37 TD's his junior year. Rivals rates Williams as a four star and he has been offered a scholarship by almost every top team in the nation.
The Cubs still have the worst record in baseball with a 29-49 record.
Matt Kenseth is out with Roush Racing. He may be headed to Gibbs racing. Brad Kesolowski won the Kentucky Nascar race Saturday night. Keso is becoming a fan favorite and continues to do well.
NU basketball has offered 2013 point guard Sam Singer, who attends Miami Ransom Everglades School in florida. Singer is 6' 4". Last year Singer averaged 34 ppg, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Singer has not visited NU yet.
Athlon's has named their All Big Ten football team. Rex Burkhead, Spencer Long, and Brett Maher were named to the first team. Mayer was listed as both kicker and punter. Second teamers were Kenny Bell, Baker Steinkuhler, and Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah was named as a kickoff returner. The third team consists of Cameron Meredith, Will Compton, Daimon Stafford, Taylor Martinez, and Kyler Reed.

The "Big Red Weekend" was this weekend. NU football had around 20 non-commtted and committed recruits visit the facilities. They received rave reviews.
Nathan Gerry, an athlete from Sioux Falls, SD, commited to Nebraska. He had offers from Iowa, Michigan St., and Minnesota.
Gabriel Miller, a long snapper, committed to Nebraska. Odd for Nebraska to offer a scholarship to a long snapper. He is rated number three at that position in the country. It is an important position and we need a good one. He was the nmer eleven commit for the 2013 class.
Nebraska also made an offer to California QB Johnny Stanton. He is a 6'2" duel threat quarterback. Oregon, Oregon St, California, and Washington have made offers along with many others. If Oregon likes him he should fit nicely into our office also.
Last week the No. 33 rated quarterback visited Nebraska. He is Damion Hobbs from Cedar Hill Texas. Hobbs rated the visit a 10. Hobbs plans to visit Missouri also.
In NU basketball, the Dallas Triumph AAU team made a visit last Wednesday. Actually four players visited on their way to the Creighton BB camp. Steven Spieth is a 2013 shooting guard. He is rated 24th in Texas He is 6'6". Tim Miles recruited him at Colorado St.
Jake Flaggert is going to be rated in the Top 15 in Texas at the next ratings to be released by TexasHoops. Flaggert is also 6"6" with a 30 inch vertical.
Also 2013 Max Tillinghast and 2015 Mason Riggins. Their coach predict Riggins may be one of the best players in the country for his age.
They left UNL feeling very impressed with Nebraska basketball!
2014 point guard Nick Norton visited the NU basketball facilities last Wednesday also. He plays for the KC Run GMC AAU program. He is a 2013 5'11" point guard is from Missouri.
Doc Sadler was named the Director of Basketball Operations by Kansas. Great job! Good for you Doc!
NU basketball guard Corey Hilliard was dismissed from the team after he was charged with stealing a cell phone.

My dad was the greatest dad that ever lived. If I could change anything about my dad, what would I have changed? Nothing. I have thought about this may times and I honestly can't think of anything.
Dad had many passions. He had a passion for his wife, my mom. He had a passion for his kids and grandkids. He had a passion for his family. He had a passion for fishing and hunting. He had a passion for visiting with people. He had a passion for his garden. He had a passion for his faith.
Dad loved life but we lost him on October 4, 2006. Now when I say we lost him, but he is still here living in us. Many businesses have a mission statement and core values that drive their decisions. For myself, since dad's death and even before that, my decisions are made by asking myself "What would dad do?". By using this for my driving force in life, decisions have been better and easier because I end up making decisions that are right, even if everybody does not agree. I always know that if I do what dad would have done, God would be very happy because he was a great example of how we are to do things.
On this Father's Day, I think about all the great memories I have of my dad! I think of stacking hay as dad brought in the bales with the farmhand. Irrigation was a big part of our summer and when we had a break in the ditch, dad and I would pitch the dirt towards the break where my sister was laying in the ditch trying to keep the water from running so fast. A big part of my life was all the fishing and hunting experiences I had the pleasure to be a part of with my dad. They were events. There are so many memories. My dad was the best hunter and fisherman I have ever seen but he was always more happy when us kids were successful. He was proud of his family.
Even though it is Father's Day, I feel very grateful that I have a mom that although she is different in some ways, she is just as great. Thanks mom!
I miss my dad. I miss him calling me and wondering when I was coming to Orleans again even though I had been there three times in the last week. I miss driving up to mom's house and not seeing him sitting at the patio table. I miss working with him in his garden. I miss the hunting and fishing experiences and talking about previous hunting and fishing experiences. I missed dad at my three daughter's weddings. He was ALWAYS so proud of his grandkids. He loved them very much. I know he would be so happy to see all them. He would have been proud of all the greatgrandkids also. He would have been so happy of Sam and Nolan and the twins, Addison and Reese. They are my grandkids.
I loved his stories. He was a great story teller. I could listen to them for hoursI loved him because he was the greatest dad ever!!!

I hear Thunder tonight
Yes we have a few sprinkles tonight but the Thunder comes out of Oklahoma City as they knocked off the Miami Heat tonight. Yippee!!
NU basketball recruit Tyrone Taylor visited Lincoln last weekend and loved what he saw. He is a 2014 point guard. He does not have an offer from NU yet but it could be coming. Creighton has offered. Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma St., Wichita St., and California are some of the teams that have shown interest. I think Taylor is ready to go if he gets an offer.
Defensive Coordinator John Papuchis' brother Drew is a graduate assistant for Frank Solich at Ohio.
Akoy Agau stopped by the NU facilities and talked for an hour with Tim Miles and other coaches. Positive move for NU and it is hopeful it will lead to more time together for them.
Tomorrow Nebraska hosts Toby Hegner, a three star power forward from Wisconsin. He is a 2013 recruit. Hegner is 6'10" but only 205 pounds. He is known for his shooting and is more of a position four player. Nebraska has not made an official offer yet.

I am to the NBA again after being away for a few years. I watched the Miami Heat/Boston Celtic game Tuesday night when the Celtics beat the Heat at Miami. I found it rather enjoyable and I think the league has made some changes that allows them to play more like the college game. I would say I will cheer for the Thunder to beat the Heat but I am anxious to see Labron go against Durant.
The pregame is kind of a joke. It seems like the group which includes Magic Johnson is in left field with their commentary. I like Magic but some of those guys are bad in my opinion. After the Celtics beat the Heat and went ahead in the series 3-2, they spent an hour before the next game talking about how the Heat would not win and who would be traded from their team. I went on and on. I guess I got the feeling they really have NO idea whats to come and to listen to them is a waste of time.
The Session two NU football camp reportedly showed that there is a load of talent in the 2014 class. Lincoln Southeast's D. J. Foster has received an NU offer already. Millard North's Clay Fisher may be the best of the Fisher kids. Hoepfully Nebraska can land him.
Joey Logano won at Pocono today. He had won the pole but I never expected him to win the race. He needed a win. He took over the ride when Tony Stewart started his own team.
Last week NU hosted 2013 power forward Tory Miller from Lee Summit, Missouri. He is 6-8 and 247 lbs and has a Big 10 body. He will be a project but he could be a good one. He has offers from NU, Minnesota, Creighton, Colorado St. and Arkansas.

Boston knocks off Miami tonight at Miami. Even with LaBron James Miami couldn't win tonight. Boston leads 3-2.
Justin Black, a NU baseball recruit, is going pro. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Atlanta Braves. He is a centerfielder from Montana.
Walter Pritchard is coming to NU to play basketball. He is a 6'10 forward and he is transferring from Florida. He was an Elite Eight High School player from Florida and was highly touted before attending Florida. He will likely redshirt this year.
DiJon Washington is leaving NU to play football elsewhere. He was a four-star safety recruit and played special teams last year. No word to where he will transfer to.
Sean Sellers, a 2014 NU basketball recuit, was in Lincoln last week. He is a 6'6" small forward from Indiana. He is being sought by a number of teams but was really impressed by the NU facilities.

Grand Island quarterback Ryker Fyfe is a great player. Should be fun to watch in the Shrine Bowl this Saturday at 1:30. He passed for over 1900 yards and 20 touchdowns this past season. He will be a walk-on at Nebraska. I hope they give him a chance in two or three years.
This writer thinks that Andy Janovich from Gretna is the best high school football player in Nebraska to enter college this year. He is freakishly strong and tough. I hope they put him in the linebacker spot because the kid can play.
Nebraska baseball picked up a new recruit for 2013. He is Park Hill, Missouri left-handed picture Dalton Moats. Dalton is only 16 but just came off a no-hitter. Moats had offers from Kansas State and Houston. Baylor, Missouri, and Coastal Carolina. I love the name. It sounds like a baseball name.
Nebraska basketball has three more Chicago kids coming in to visit. They are from an AAU team called the Southwest Illinois Jets 16U team. The three are 2014 prospects and their names are Peyton Allen, Darreon Reddick, and Darius Austin. Allen is the big name. He already has offers from Iowa, Oklahoma St., and Bradley. He has received heavy interest from Michigan, Boston College, Kansas State, Xavier, and Penn State. He is a 6'5" guard who has made a name for himself as a shooter.
Reddick is 6'3" and is being called a combo guard. His present coach thinks he will play ppoint guard. Austin is a 6-6 small forward who is picking up interest.
Nebraska baseball is done. This team is almost identical in the RPI ratings as the team last year. However the team seems to be on the upswing right now.
NU has a lot of players returning next year. Gone is Cory Burleson at catcher, ourfielder Kale Kaiser, and pitcher Dexter Spitsnogle.
At catcher, NU has two juco players coming in, Tanner Lubach and Corey Stringer. Love the names.
Papillion's star infielder Jake Placzek is coming to NU. New ourfielders will be Justin Black from Billings, Montana and Matt Jones from Gretna.
NU only has one starting pitcher coming in and he is a juco player by the name of Matt Strahm.
The relief pitchers coming in the fall include jucos Christian Deleon and Michael Hoppes. High schooler Colton Howell will also join the Huskers.
Phil Steele has the Huskers winning the Legends Division this fall. Hope he is right.
Darian Barrientos-Jackson thinks Deverell Biggs is going to talk Akoy Akau into playing basketball at Nebraska.

Lots of things happening! Starting off Sarah(oldest daughter) and Rob had beautiful twin girls on May 9th. Addison weighed 4 lbs 9 oz. and Reese weighed 5 lbs. 4 oz. They are doing well and are both over six pounds now. They are very precious seeing them lay beside each other and sleep. They have a bigger brother Sam who is two and a half. Sam is a lot of fun to be around and he loves his two little sisters.

Saint Louis head coach Shimmy Gray-Miller has been named an assistant coach for the Nebraska women's basketball team. She had been let go in March. She replaces Kallie Lewis-Jay who took the head coaching job at Florida Atlantic.
Gray-Miller is a Michigan graduate and ranked in the top 10 in several career categories.
Tim Miles has announced officially another recruit. He is Terran Petteway who is transferring from Texas Tech. He was highly touted nationally out of high school. At Texas Tech he started 10 of 11 conference games but only averaged 3.3 points per game and 2.1 rebounds.
He did average 27 points per game his senior season on high school in Texas. He was a two-time all stater in Texas.
Kurt Busch has been fined $50,000 again by NASCAR. The Busch brothers are in constant trouble, aren't they?
Like him or not Urban Meyer is one heck of a coach and it will be hard for Nebraska to ever beat him.
Watch for Terrelle Pryor to get some playing time this year for the Oakland Raiders. Reports are that Pryor is working his tail off to be a part of the Raiders' offense.

Husker strength and conditioning coach James dobson will receive the top honor for his job. There is nobody with more enthusiasm. He has a passion for what he does and is a large reason of why the Huskers are faster and stronger and in much better shape compared to before he got to NU. He is like a put bull on speed. He even makes a fat old boy like me want to run through a wall. He is well deserving of this award.
Coach Erstad said after the Husker's baseball game today that it was their most complete game of the season. Nebraska beat Indiana at Indiana in the opening game today 13-2.
Mike Rutherford of SBNation.com rated the new coaching hires and here are the grades:
Illinois-Jim Groce C-
Kansas State- Bruce Weber C+
LSU-Johnny Jones B-
Miss State-Rick Ray C+
Nebraska-Tim Miles A
South Carolina-Frank Martin A
Virginia Tech-James Johnson D+
Colorado State-Larry Eustachy A-
He says' "Tim Miles is never short on energy. Miles has an infectiously upbeat personality that his players feed off of. You almost have to in order to accomplish something like taking Colorado St. from 7-25 to the NCAA Tournament.
But work ethic isn't behind Miles' on-court success; the guy can coach. According to SI's Luke Winn, Colorado St. was the fourth most efficient team in college basketball coming out of timeouts this past season.
This is a terrific hire for a program that has vowed to make more of a commitment to basketball since joining the Big Ten."
Sounds great to me!!!
Christian Locouture became Nebraska football recruit number six. He is a defensive end from College Station, Texas, where Texas A & M is located.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Lacouture had narrowed his list of nine offers down to Nebraska, LSU and Michigan, but in the end he chose to become a Cornhusker.
A ton of top notch teams were after him and Nebraska got him. Looks like a great pickup.

Nathan Curry, an athlete from Sioux Falls, South Dakota has a scholarship offer from Nebraska to play football. He is 6' 2" and 205 lbs. Gerry has run a 10.69 100 meter race and a 21.81 200 meter eace this spring. What position he might play is unknown but Nebraska is looking in different places for recuits. Looks like a very athletic kid.
The arena is on schedule and Nebraska basketball ticket holders will know their seats in July. Wow, that's fast and it will be interesting to see what it available.
The WAC conference only has two teams left. they are Idaho and New Mexico State. Looks like the conference will fold in the near future.
Chris Berman talks too much on TV.
Albert Pujois does not have a home run yet!

Husker Update!
Nebraska plays Creighton tonight at TDAmeritrade stadium in Omaha. Should be fun. Creighton may be headed to their first losing season in years and Nebraska's RPI is similar to last year's. Nebraska ended up 65th last year and is presently 63rd. But whenever Creighton and Nebraska play, it is fun! I hope they can play three times a swason in the future. Why not?
Nebraska baseball is now 26-15, overall, and 8-7 in the Big Ten. They are in 4th in the Big Ten with Purdue solidly in first followed by Michigan St. and Minnesota. Nebraska's pitching has been a problem. They have a combined ERA of 6.13. Brandon Pierce has done well with an ERA of 3.85. Nebraska has the game with Creighton tonight followed by three games with California State University-Bakersfield this weekend.
Nebraska continues to recruit basketball players and the number four player in next year's class said that he has been to Duke and North Carolina and Nebraska's facilities is better than both. That's a start.
Just don't expect NU Basketball to all of the sudden this winter to be a NCAA contender. It won't happen. We don't have the numbers and maybe in three or four years...........................

Nebraska baseball ran into its best team of the season with Purdue. Purdue took two out of three from NU in Lincoln this weekend. Purdue should have a pretty good chance of doing well in the regionals and if they stay hot go to Omaha in June.
NU football got a nice recruit from Ohio. Courtney Love has commited to NU. He plays outside linebacker and is rated a four star. Love comes from Youngstown Cardinal Mooney where Pelini went to school. Nebraska is developing a pipeline to this school with Braylon Heard, Tim Marlowe, and Mark Pelini already on the team. What a great name.....Courtney Love.
Denny Hamlin won the Kansas City Nascar race today with Mark Truex Jr coming in a close second. The race was somewhat boring. Nascar's trend is headed to more and more boring races and they are losing fans. The car of tomorrow hasn't worked.
Pat Summit is no longer head basketball coach at Tennessee. WOW! She will be known as the one that put excellent women's basketball on the map.
Nathan Bazata from Howells commited to Iowa. He is the second 8-man player to go there. Drew Ott from Giltner is headed there this fall.

Matt Hill to Hong Kong!
Just received news that Matt Hill is headed to Hong Kong to play basketball. The former Lincoln Southeast star and Texas Longhorn is getting his first stint with pro basketball. Hopefully we will have more details soon.
Ricky Thenarse is going back to his high school at L.A. Jordon High School to coach his former team. Thenarse was a star running back for L.A. Jordon High School. We wish him well.
Chicago Whitney Young forward Jermaine Morgan may be headed to Nebraska. He had agreed to play at Colorado St. Rules say if a coach transfers they can switch schools also with no penalty.
Dick Clark died today. He was an icon quite a few years ago and I always tried to watch "American Bandstand" when I was a kid. I wished they showed reruns of that show. I am sure I would laugh a lot watching it today but I would like the chance to do so. I wished they hadn't have had Dick Clark on the New Year's show after he had his stroke. He was too good for that.

What to watch for in the Red-White game!
Some things I am anxious to watch in the Red-White game today.
1. Look to see how much different Taylor Martinez throws the ball.
2. Watch how Brion Carnes, Ron Kellogg, and Brandon Marsh performs.
3. I would like to see how Taariq Allen plays at wide receiver. There will be a lot of competition at wide receiver.
4. Ameer Abdullah and Aaron Green. Will Green look better than Abdullah today. Both are young quality running backs.
5. Mohammed Seisay. Will he excel in the spring game at cornerback? Juco transfer like David and Asante. Will he be as good?
6. David Santos. Can he surprise at linebacker and move to No. 1 this fall?
7. Anxious to see how Braylon Heard, Baptiste, and Antonio Bell do at corner?
8. How will the fullbacks play? Mike Morrow, C.J. Zimmerer, Graham Stoddard??
9. Cole Pensick at center.
10. That we have an exciting enough game and a lot of fans attending to excite the recruits in to watch.
BASKETBALL NEW!!
Jahill Okafor, five star Chicago center, will be in Lincoln THIS weekend along with four other Chicago propects. Okafor is the No. 4 overall player in the 2014 class by Rivals. He's 6' 10". Pretty much everybody in the country is after him. Hope that goes really well. I bet Chin Coleman, one of our new assistant coaches, had something to do with all this!
Paul White is a four star 6'8" SF who is visiting this week also.
Deveral Biggs may make a decision real soon also.
Nebraska Coach Tim Miles has parted ways with Fahro Alihodiz, a 6' 10" center, who was recruited to Nebraska by the previous staff. Assuming Nebraska gets a medical scholarship for Christopher Niemann, they will be down to eight players on scholarship. The limit is 13.
Other news--Lee Summit Missouri power forward Tory Miller has received a scholarship offer from Nebraska to play basketball. He is 6'8" and 247 lbs. Nice size and we need players like that.

More changes with Nebraska basketball!
Brian Diaz has quit the team. He has been a valuable member of the NU team but foot problems has plagued him the past two years.
Ben Johnson is a new assistant coach for NU. He comes with some Big 1o background. He comes from Northern Iowa where he was an assistant. He played for Northwestern and Minnesota and has connections for recruiting in Minnesota and Iowa.
Beatrice walk-on Mike Fox is quitting basketball so that he can student teach next year. Fox played in 23 games this past season and averaged 10 minutes.
Finally, Christopher Nieman is probably not going to play due to his knee problems the past several years. They are trying to get him a medical scholarship so he can finish his studies.
Nebraska baseball gets back on the winning track with a 6-0 win over Kansas State. Yeah!

Biggs to Nebraska?
Deverall Biggs has an offer from Tim Miles to play basketball at the University of Nebraska. Biggs was a standout for Omaha Central. This year he had a great year for Seard County Kansas C.C. He led the team to third place in the Division I Juco tournment. He was named Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year.
Biggs averaged 16.4 points per game and 3.9 steals this year. He has offers from Oklahoma St., Southern Mississippi, and Utah State.
Biggs may put Nebraska first because he says he misses home.
Miles says he doesn't like JUCO players or foreign players but with this former Omaha Central star, he is willing to make an exception.
Biggs may also help with the recruiting of Akoy Agau, who is a present Omaha Central standout.
The Husker football team is always changing. Andrew Rodriquez has moved to tackle and backs up Jeremiah Sirles. Brent Qvale is backing up Tyler Moore. Mo Seisay may find a way to start at cornerback. Braylon Heard continues to impress at cornerback.
Ryne Reeves has moved from center to guard and is being praised by Pelini.
Overall Pelini seems to be in good spirits which may show is confidence in his present team.
Nebraska has offered Josh Banderas from Lincoln Southwest a football scholarship. In track this last week he placed first in the 110 highs, second in the shot put, and second in the 100 meter sprint race. Quite a combination and the results reflects his athletic ability.
The Nebraska baseball tream lost two of three to Northwestern this weekend. Not very impressive against a pretty bad team but Northwestern's pitching was excellent the last two days.

The basketball team is changing!
Tim Miles is allowing incoming recruits Keith Coleman and Jerran Young out of their letters of intent and he is granting freshman Josiah Moore his request for a scholarship release.
Freshman Corey Hilliardwill likely have surgery in May for a sports hernia.
Miles will attend the Final Four and interview up to ten people to fill the other two assistant coaches' position.
Danny Manning is the new coach at Tulsa. He is a great developer of big men and should be a great coach. This will hurt the Kansas team.
Doc Sadler was at the Nebraska football practice today.

Tim Miles
I received an e-mail this morning from Tom Gdowski of Grand Island. Tom was a defensive tackle for the Huskers in the late 70's, early 80's. Tom's son Jake Gdowski graduated from Grand Island High School and started at Colorado St. He had a very good career as an offensive lineman. He may get a chance to play in the pros. He is 6' 3" and 303 lbs.
Tom made a lot of trips to the Colorado St. campus and met Tim Miles. Here's what Tom had to say about the new NU basketball coach.
" Met the guy several times. He is ALWAYS upbeat and enthusiastic. Doesn’t take
himself too seriously but commands respect from players and peers. Should do
well!"
The positive comments continue to come in and it will be exciting to see how he puts his staff together and who he will put on the floor next year as NU lost a lot of seniors this year. Miles is bringing in"Chin" Coleman who has AAU ties and knows the Chicago area as one of his assistants. He is known as an ace recruiter. Coleman has been on Miles' CSU staff and was a very successful high school coach in the Chicago area. Coleman is presently traveling to talk to the present recruits for Nebraska.
Jayden Olson has also been added to the staff. Olson spent two seasons at CSU as the basketball operations director and video coordinator. Miles plans to add three more to his basketball staff.
John Groce, who led Ohio to the final eight in the NCAA basketball tournament, is headed to Illinois.
Baseball attendance in the Big 10 was led by Nebraska with over 5000 average attendance this weekend. It was by far the leader in attendance. In contrast, Minnesota averaged 242 fans per game, Iowa 676 per game, and Michigan only 706 per game. It will be culture shock when we go to play some of these teams.
Andrew Rodriquez is getting noticed this spring on the NU football team due to his work ethic. Rodriquez is working some at tackle this spring but is presently working with the second unit.
On defense, Daimond Stafford is light years ahead of last year according to Pelini. Pelini says that cornerback Mohammed Seisay continues to impress this spring. Seisay is a juco transfer.
Ryne Reeves has moved to guard. That leaves Cole Pensick, Justin Jackson, and Mark Pelini at center. Pensick seems to be the leader right now.

Alex Gordon is hitting .422 this spring.
Next weekend's matchups of Ohio State/Kansas and Kentucky/Louisville look very attractive to watch.
Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III look to be the first two picks of the draft for Indianapolis and Washington. Texas A & M's QB Ryan Tannehill could go third or fourth in the draft. Minnesota picks third and Cleveland goes fourth.
The odds are pretty good that Nebraska won't have anybody taken in the first round.
Malik Zaire, a quarterback that Nebraska was after, has commited to Notre Dame.
Tim Miles, the new NU basketball coach, pleads for patience from the fans.
The Atlanta Hawks beat the Jazz tonight 139-133 in the first quadruple overtime game in the NBA since 1997. This was the first for the Jazz ever.
Nebraska baseball beat Illinois 13-3 today to win two of three from Illinois. Illinois was expected to finish fourth in the Big 10 while Nebraska was predicted to finish third. Nebraska blew out Illinois on Saturday and Sunday but was beaten 11-3 on Friday night.
Nebraska played 16 games in March at home and not one was altered by weather.

NU will announce Tim Miles as NU's new coach!

Tim Miles will be named Nebraska's new head basketball coach on Saturday!!
The full contract, according to ESPN, would be an estimated $8.7 million over
six years.
six years.
Miles, 45, replaces former head coach Doc Sadler, who was fired after
six seasons in Lincoln earlier this month. Miles had just received a three-year
contract extension in May to stay at CSU, which would have increased his salary
to $750,000 annually through 2016.
Tim Miles is 45 years old and took Colorado State to the NCAA tournament this year. Tim Miles is from Doland, South Dakota.
Before taking over at CSU, Miles coached at North Dakota State (2001-07),
Southwest Minnesota State (1997-2001) and Mayville State (1995-97). His career
record as a head coach is 285-227, and he was 71-88 in five seasons at Colorado
State.

record as a head coach is 285-227, and he was 71-88 in five seasons at Colorado

One factor that obviously made Miles attractive is that he built his team around Nebraska players this year. Four of his players wer Jesse Carr of Ainsworth, Wes Eikmeier of Fremont, and Dwight Smith and Greg Smith of Ralston.
He also had a couple of regional players such as Colton Iverson of Yankton and Dorian Green of Lawrence, Kansas.
Eikmeier (15.5 points per game), Green (13.1 ppg) and Greg Smith (9.4 ppg)
were Colorado State's top three leading scorers this past season.
Miles' Colorado St. roster this year consisted of four players from Colorado and Nebraska and one each from Arizona, Minnesota, Kansas, South Dakota and Florida.
He definitely likes Midwest kids. Will there be enough local kids to take Nebraska to the next level. One plus for Nebraska is that he obviously knows a lot about our State. The Nebraska high school coaches seem to like him.
His assistant coaches are Niko Medved, who also serves a key role in recruiting, Craig Smith, who was named NAIA Coach of the Year in 2007, and Ron Coleman, who was a star basketball player for Lamar and played some NBA ball and served as CSU's recruiting coordinator this past year. Coleman has experience in the AAU ranks also. It is unknown how many of these coaches will come with him to Nebraska but they all look like great assets to the new coach.
Colorado State's top recruit coming in this fall is Jermaine Morgan, who was recruited by Coleman due to his ties to Chicago. He is a 6'7" power forward.
It will be interesting to see what Nebraska ends up with this fall. Don't expect too much from Miles and the Huskers the first year.
Florida and Kansas, who were both in Omaha last weekend look like they BOTH will make it to the Elite Eight. Pretty cool.

Sutton interviews with Nebraska

Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton has interviewed for the Nebraska vacancy for basketball. Scott Sutton is 250-181 in 13 years at Oral Roberts. Scott Sutton is the son of Eddie Sutton who coached at Creighton, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Oklahoma St.
Eddie said" He brings a lot to the table. He's a good speaker, a good recruiter, and he always runs a clean program. He's everything a university would look for in a coach. And he has a desire to get to that next level."
Other coaches connected to the Nebraska job are Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Rob Jeter and Colorado St.'s Tim Miles.
Alex Gordon is hitting .378 this spring.
Last weekend, at the NCAA tournament in Omaha, I really enjoyed watching and being a part of the NCAA tournament. The Florida-Virginia game never turned out to be a good game. Florida looked real good and Virginia was very cold. Florida won easily.
The upcoming game of Missouri-Norfolk St. That looked to be a pretty boring game and more on that later.
The evening games started with Purdue and St. Mary's. St. Mary's had beaten Gonzaga in the conference standings and conference tournament this year. Purdue had finished in the mid-pack of the Big 10. But the Big 10 has shown they are really good in this tournament. The Big 10 is tough. St. Mary's had a chance to win the game but traveled late in the game and Purdue got the win by three points.
Now back to the Norfolk St/Missouri game. Missouri was a #2 seat and Norfolk State was a #15 seat. The game started close and was close the whole game. I am not sure anybody got ahead more than four points the whole game. Missouri had a lot of trouble containing Kevin Durant or I mean Kyle O 'Quinn. O'Quinn looked ready for the NBA.
When the game started there were about 80 Norfolk St fans and about 3500 Missouri fans. The rest of the 16,000 were just watching. Then the Norfolk St pep band started to heat up, the cheerleaders put on a show I can't even explain, and the rest of the 16,000 became instant Norfolk St. Spartan fans. Spartan, their mascot, was one of the funniest and best mascots I have ever seen in college sports. The crowd was shouting NSU, NSU!!!! The fans for Norfolk St now counted to around 12,500 fans. Even Missouri fans gave the NSU pep band and cheerleaders standing ovations. What a game. Norfolk St. wins 86-84. For a while it seemed neither team could miss. Missouri didn't play bad but my did Norfolk St play well. A memory I will never forget.
On Sunday the anticipated game between Florida and Norfolk St never materialized. At one point the Florida gators outscored the Spartans 25-0. Florida went on to win by about 35 points but I still enjoyed the NSU pep band and cheerleaders.
The second best game of the tournament was Purdue and Kansas with Kansas winning at the end in a hard fought battle.
Omaha put on a good show. I would love to go again. It was fun and relaxing.

Scott Spinelli should be our pick!

Scott Spinelli was an assistant under Barry Collier. He was a great recruiter and showed lots of promise. Nebraska seemed to be getting better and then he left for Wichita State. He had been an assistant at Nebraska for three years. It was a sad day when he left.
Spinelli is very personable and a very kind person. He believes in realationships. He is familiar with Nebraska. He knows how tough it will be to build a program. He is a great recruiter.
He is never been a head coach but he has to be ready. He may have been ready ten years ago.
Spinelli has followed former KU star, now Maryland coach since he left Nebraska. He spent time as an assistant at Wichita State, Texas A & M, and now Maryland.
Spinelli is the only potential coach that I have read so far that has interest that I feel can do the job at Nebraska. Nebraska basketball will be tough to change but Spinelli can do it.
Let's hope he has interest and that we take a serious look at him.

We will miss Doc!

Doc Sadler was an emotional guy. The first time I heard him speak, he told the crowd that one of his father's last wishes was to see a Nebraska football game. His dad lived in Arkansas but he always loved Nebraska football. So Doc and his dad went to Lincoln to watch Nebraska football. When Doc told the story he broke down. He loved him reight away.
Yesterday Doc Sadler was let go by Nebraska. Again you had to love Doc Sadler and feel for him when he spoke at the press conference. He is a genuine person with lots of integrity. He cared about academics. He just didn't win enough.
Doc Sadler, after five seasons, was the winniest coach in Nebraska basketball history for their first five years. Then year six hit and the Huskers went 12-16. Injuries to Brian Diaz and Eric Almeida was costly to Nebraska as they had no answer to the big men in the Big 10. Who knows how good they would have been if only they would have been playing. Instead Doc had to give walkons a lot of minutes.
Doc ended up 101-89 compared to Danny Nee's 105-81 after his first six seasons.
Ray Gallegos took a redshirt and had improved enough that he may have taken over as point guard next year. It was still unknown as the availability of Diaz and Almeida for the 2012-13 season. Doc had five recruits coming in next year. He had a point guard, two shooting guards, and two power forwards coming to Nebraska. Also he had a really good point guard signed for 2013 by the name of Imara Ready.
Doc was never ever able to recruit the big star or two to take Nebraska to a new level. Roburt Sallie was good but never was allowed to play because of a mess-up in the paper work. Injuries were always a problem.
Doc was always funny. At one of the early compliance meetings with the athletic departments Doc wore a Hawaiian shirt. Steve Pedersen told him to at least dress business casual and come looking more professional. The next meeting Doc came in his best suit. He winked at one of the other staff and said "Do you think he will think this is professional enough?" Funny guy. Always joking.
We'll miss him.
The next coach will need to work on Akoy Agau of Omaha Central. He may be Nebraska high school's best big man in quite a few years. He had a triple double in the championship game against Omaha South Saturday.
The championship D-2 game last night will be talked about for a long time. Gilter was behind by four points to Howells with 1.9 seconds left. Gilter guard Dustin Hastings was fouled on a three point attempt. He missed the first free throw and then made the second. Gilter then set up a play where Hastings was to miss the free throw and then Drew Ott was to tip it out to Jake Findley for a three pointer and it worked as designed. It then became a question whether Findley got the shot off before the clock expired. The television replay showed that maybe he didn't but it was close and the officials gave it to him. Overtime.
Gilter ended up winning in two overtimes 52-41 as they outscored Howells 11-0 in the final OT.
In football, secondary coach Terry Joseph will be a plus for the Huskers.
The Husker women find out tomorrow night who they will play in the NCAA tournament. What a year they have had. Well beyond what many expected before the season began.
Even though the Nebraska baseball team lost today, there is enthusiasm from the fans. The Huskers are executing the small ball approach when needed. It seems in the past when we needed to move over a runner into scoring position we had a hard time of getting the bunt down. The pitching is starting to take shape and improving.

Husker women are in the finals of the Big 10!
The Husker women will face Purdue at 3 on Sunday on ESPNU!! They are playing great and it should be a great game tomorrow!! Jordon Hooper had 21 points to lead the Huskers over Ohio State today.
The Husker men lost again today and will play in the Big 10 tournament this week.
The NCAA women's tournament starts this week. Should be a fun time and we hope the Huskers go far. They have the team to do so.
Then there is the men's tournament starting in less than two week. Who's the best? Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Ohio State, Kansas, Missouri, Syracuse, and you can go on and on. Should be a tough bracket to fill out.
But this week is the women's tournament and I am filling out a bracket to have some fun!!
Should be a great race in Phoenix tomorrow. I have been there and there is tons of action!!
