Every now then you experience something that can impact your life. This writer attended the funeral of Jim Sweeney today at the Westmark Church north of Loomis, Nebraska. It was a moving and thought provoking celebration of a man who always put his wife, Pam, first in his life. They did everything together and they were always there for each other.
Eulogies were given by Brenda Moosburger, a friend, and Dr. Bill Sandy, also a friend and his family physician. Jeff Cox sang "I Can Only Imagine' and "The Lord's Prayer". Pastor Tom Thomas was the pastor. A video was played of numerous pictures of Jim's life. The messages of all were very touching and they all showed through words how Jim Sweeney gave them inspiration in so many ways.
You see Jim was only 49 and his life was cut short by cancer. But his faith and hope in God and his positive approach to life was precious. The words expressed to us today said that he never gave up and he always said to the end "Don't worry. I will be ok." "Never complain about your work, but feel good that you can." Pastor Tom said that Pam had mentioned that "He made me feel like a queen every day." Friends and family will truly miss him.
The following was taken from the bulletin given to us at the funeral today. Read it and think about it.
"Live each day to the fullest. Get the most from each hour, each day, and each age of your life. Then you can look forward with confidence, and back without regrets.
Be yourself, but be your best self. Dare to be different and to follow your own star.
And don't be afraid to be happy. Enjoy what is beautiful. Love with all your heart and soul. Believe that those you love, love you.
Forget what you have done for your friends, and remember what they have done for you. Disregard what the world owes you and concentrate on what you owe the world.
When you are faced with a decision, make that decision as wisely as possible, then forget it. The moment of absolute certainty never arrives.
And above all, act as if everything depended upon you, and pray as if everything depended upon God."
